The power supply that gives direct current (DC) voltage to the power of a component, a module, or a device, this type of power supply is known as the DC power supply. A good DC power supply has the characteristics of delivering a voltage and current that is durable, strong, and which is accurate as well. In this process, minimal change should be created to any type of load. Loads like to any variable, resistive, inductive, etc.
The Variable Bench Power Supply is one kind of power supply mechanism that is used by electricians to test the voltage capacity for a specific use. The variable power supply is also used to provide the direct current (DC) of various values. For example, if you want 10 Volts DC then it will provide you 10 Volts, so it will provide the DC supply as much as you want or requires.
Types of Direct Current (DC) Power Supplies:
There are types of power supply regulated and unregulated power supply, that play an important role when it comes to the power supply. The regulated power supply is further divided into two parts linearly regulated and switch-mode. So let’s talk about the two major classifications of direct current (DC) power supply.
UNREGULATED POWER SUPPLY: For the input, the unregulated power supply used the alternating current (AC) mainline. After using the alternating current (AC) mainline as an input, the alternating current (AC) voltage has to pass through a step-down transformer. The lower secondary voltage is converted into the appropriate direct current (DC) quantity after being sorted out. The rectified output voltage of the rectifier is then smoothed by a capacitor.
As the name says the unregulated power supply is a system that does not balance one constant voltage into direct current (DC) voltage. These types of power supplies are not as complex as regulated power supplies. As unregulated power supplies require less material which makes the whole process less complex.
In simple words, when the direct current (DC) voltage obtained by converting alternating current (AC) mainlines does not remain constant due to the variation in load current, main voltage, and changes in ambient temperature, then this type of power supply is known as an unregulated power supply. As the output changes when its input load varies.
REGULATED POWER SUPPLY: It is the type of power supply, which converts unregulated alternating current ( AC) to a constant direct current (DC). this type of power supply is known as a regulated power supply. In this type of power supply, the out remains constant even if the input load varies.
As the regulated power supplies pass through the power transistor, so, therefore, it will create a high loss of energy, this loss of energy is released as heat, so this regulated power supply needs proper ventilation. As medical equipment requires the exact amount of voltage so the regulated power supply is mainly used in the medical equipment.
A DC Programmable Power Supply plays a very important role when it comes to any kind of equipment which requires current. I hope you are very clear about which type of power supply you require for your business or any kind of use. So which power supply do you use in your house?
