You may know if you have been infected with the coronavirus if you have reported symptoms, such as a mild fever or a persistent cough. Even if you feel well, testing for COVID-19 can be useful if you’ve recently been in contact with an infected person, as the virus doesn’t always cause noticeable symptoms. Either way, after receiving the test results, you can take all necessary precautions to protect yourself and others.
UrgentWay offers timely COVID-19 testing services in New York City. After evaluating your symptoms and situation, we can suggest the most appropriate type of COVID-19 for you.
We offer:
- Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) COVID-19 testing
- Rapid COVID-19 Antigen Testing
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) COVID-19 testing.
The PCR test, currently considered the gold standard for COVID-19 testing, involves swabbing the front of the nose and taking a small sample of secretion. The samples are then sent to a laboratory where they are tested for signs of active infection. Results are typically returned within 24-48 hours. This type of test is suitable for patients with or without symptoms of COVID-19. In addition, most states, employers, and schools will accept PCR test results if proof of a negative COVID-19 test is required.
Rapid COVID-19 Antigen Testing.
Like PCR tests, rapid antigen tests include nasal swabs. However, samples are processed immediately in our on-site laboratory and results are available in approximately 15 minutes. Of the two tests for COVID-19, the rapid antigen test provides the fastest results. However, it is slightly less accurate than the PCR test. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), positive results are generally reliable, but false negative results are common. Therefore, if a rapid antigen test is negative, a PCR test is usually recommended.
UrgentWay offers COVID-19 antibody tests such as PCR tests and rapid antigen tests that can detect active COVID-19 infections. This test checks blood samples for signs of past infection, and antibodies to COVID-19, which may offer some protection against reinfection.
