You’ve probably seen those shows about people flipping houses and you’re thinking, “I could do that.” But then you remember that you have no sense of style, zero creativity, and you can’t even draw a stick figure. But don’t despair! There is hope for you yet. You can still have a career in the design field! Just study architecture!
The pros:
-You get to design houses! And who doesn’t love playing with legos? Houses are basically giant legos.
-You get to use cool software like AutoCAD. And who doesn’t love playing video games? AutoCAD is basically a giant video game.
-You get to travel to cool places to see famous buildings. And who doesn’t love going on vacation? Seeing buildings is basically like going on a really long vacation.
-You get to wear cool clothes like Birkenstocks and fleece vests. And who doesn’t love being comfortable? Wearing Birkenstocks and a fleece vest is basically like wearing your pajamas all day.
The cons:
-It takes a really long time to become an architect. Like, 10 years. That’s longer than it takes to become a doctor. So if you’re not prepared to commit to a decade of school, this might not be the career for you.
-It’s expensive. Like, really expensive. If you want to go to a good school, you’re looking at upwards of $100,000 in debt. So if you’re not prepared to take on a lot of debt, this might not be the career for you.
-It’s competitive. Like, really competitive. There are way more people applying to architecture schools than there are spots available. So if you’re not prepared to compete with other people for a spot in school, this might not be the career for you.
So there you have it! The pros and cons of studying architecture! It’s a long and difficult road but if you’re up for the challenge, it can be a rewarding career! Good luck and happy designing!
