Washing the car engine is very important for its proper functioning: here’s how and when to do it best.
Washing the engine of our car is an extremely important operation to be carried out to allow the correct functioning of the mechanical components of the car and also of the engine itself and is part of proper maintenance.
If you have a thorough understanding of the machine’s internal circuits, you can try to clean the engine without contacting expert personnel. Otherwise, in order to avoid errors or cause damage to the vehicle, it is better to contact specialized personnel.
Cost of washing the car engine
The cost for a car engine cleaning varies depending on the type of car cleaning. They range from 11 euros for a partial engine wash to 22 euros for a complete engine wash. Entrusting the cleaning of the engine to a good mechanic can make you spend extra money but avoids the waste of time deriving from disassembling the mechanical parts of the machine.
Furthermore, by relying on a professional, we avoid electrical damage that can be caused during the engine cleaning operation.
Do it yourself cleaning the car engine
If, on the other hand, you are quite informed on how to remove and then on how to put everything back in its place (connections and mechanical parts of the car included), you can try to wash the engine of the car even by yourself. In this case we recommend the use of a good additive for cleaning the engine, adding AdBlue if necessary.
Before the advent of the internal engine cleaner , the most commonly used product for cleaning the latter was diesel oil but then, with the discovery of better performing products for this cleaning, it was preferred to use the latter.
Preliminary steps before cleaning the engine
Washing the car engine requires several steps. First of all, once the hood has been opened, the most obvious foreign bodies, such as dry leaves, twigs and even insect nests, must be removed. Immediately after, it is advisable to remove the car battery because this, in contact with water, could cause a short circuit. It is advisable to do this before changing the engine oil.
Also to avoid risks, it is advisable to cover all exposed electrical cables with transparent films or plastic bags. Once this is done, the car engine must be turned on for at least 5 minutes so that grease and dirt, once heated, can be removed more easily.
Real engine wash
Once the car engine is turned off, spray the special spray all over the engine compartment, possibly avoiding the painted parts exactly as you would use the car polish for exteriors. After 5 minutes, start scrubbing vigorously using a stiff bristle brush.
At this point, as the dirt comes off, you should see the original polish of the various engine parts. If this is not the case, you can always repeat the procedure by putting the spray back on and starting to brush again.
As we have seen, washing the car engine is a delicate operation and not suitable for everyone. So it is better not to improvise as a professional so as not to cause irreparable damage to your car.
However, this operation, carried out at least once a year, can bring significant benefits to the performance and durability of your car over time. So, if you want the car’s engine to always be responsive and roaring, run right away to your trusted mechanic!
