There are different vehicle models on the market, with different sizes, powers, designs and technical characteristics that are grouped into segments. Of course a wide range of options to choose from. However, among all of them, there is a category that encompasses the largest number of registrations month by month: segment B cars. What are they? What characteristics do they have? In this post, we will tell you everything!
The cars in segment B are the so-called city or utility cars. These types of vehicles have been created to travel the city because they are agile cars and easy to drive in urban centers. However, despite the fact that years ago they did not enjoy good quality in materials, for some time this situation has been reversed and now they have good acoustic insulation, great comfort and very safety even at high speeds.
All these new qualities allow utility vehicles to leave the city to make long trips with all the guarantees. It is for this reason, in addition to the more affordable price and the most striking designs, that the sale of B-segment cars has a great weight in the economy, since it is one of the segments that achieves the most sales per month, along with SUVs and compact ones for auto for trade.
The segment to which it belongs is one of the characteristics that can influence the price when hiring car insurance, which is another of the variables together with consumption or taxes that you can take into account if you are thinking of buying a car from this category.
Characteristics of B-segment vehicles
Multipurpose, small compact or subcompact are other names for this type of vehicle. The classification into segments that is carried out by the automotive sector is based on the measurement of the vehicles, the power and the technical characteristics. In this sense, vehicles in segment B have the following characteristics:
• They are smaller than the compact models. The utility vehicles usually measure 4 meters in the type of body called hatchback (5 doors) and reach 4.25 meters in body type’s sedan and family.
• They have five seats. The size of the B can accommodate five adult passengers, although the space is tight. The ideal thing would be to cover four adults and a child so that comfort is not lacking.
• Designs can include three or five doors, depending on the manufacturer and brand. In any case, the boot usually has a capacity of between 280 and 340 liters, although some models may exceed it.
• As for the engine, most of the cars in segment B have four-cylinder engines with displacements of between 1.0 and 2.0 liters. This gives you the ability to take long trips at the maximum speed allowed without any problem.
