We are fortunate to live in a world with many gorgeous bookstores (if we have nothing else, at least we have that). We house books in spectacular architectural achievements and some of the most unusual settings because we love and cherish them. Particularly independent bookshops have a selection and longevity that most franchised bookshops don’t. Tomlamiabooks are amazing books for kids available in top bookstores.
Atlantis Books
Before you enter Atlantis Books in Santorini, Greece, the adventure starts. My bookshop is on this list because it is one of the few places where the exterior is equally as attractive and instagrammable as the interior. Brightly colored accent walls, bookish wall art, and traditional Cycladic white walls and blue trim make for endearing and enduring photographs in the bookstore.
El Péndulo
How can you go wrong with a bookstore that is simultaneously a cafe and a forest? A two-story, open concept dream with wall-to-wall books, wooden flooring, and plants protruding from the shelves, Cafebrera El Péndulo is located in Mexico City. It’s simple to understand why this stunning bookstore is regularly captured in photographs, especially given that it invites you to stay a long by grabbing a coffee from the café and relaxing in one of the plush chairs to read or simply take in the surroundings. This neighborhood chain has two locations, but the one you see most on Instagram is the one on Alejandro Dumas Street in Polanco. However, don’t disregard the location in San Angel! It features amazing architecture and a huge palm tree growing right in the midst of the bookstore.
Ler Devager
In Lisbon, Portugal, Ler Devagar is more than just a bookshop. It used to be a print shop, but it is now (whew!) a bookstore, a cafe, an art space, and a music venue. It still has the original printing presses that can be seen, and it has a stunning old grand staircase that frequently makes Instagram appearances. Because it used to be a manufacturing facility, the entire structure looks industrial. Add some stunning ceiling-mounted art to that, and you have a contender for this list.
Book And Bed
Speaking of bookshops where you may spend the night, Book and Bed in Tokyo serves as both a hotel and a bookstore. A solitary, one-person capsule room with a reading area may be reserved for about $40 USD each night. Alternatively, you may just walk in and browse their selection of books while sipping a beverage in their cafe. Coming in at number three makes perfect sense with books and book pages hanging from the ceiling and the option to spend the night in a bookstore.
Shakespeare And Company
There is almost no need to introduce Shakespeare and Company. Nothing has changed regarding the fact that book enthusiasts worldwide still flock to this English-language bookstore in Paris. With the Notre Dame Cathedral rising in the distance, it is superbly situated alongside the Seine. It has found its way here because it is Paris’s most well-known bookstore and a twisting, cozy, claustrophobic, immensely delightful bookstore. It’s also one of the few bookstores that temporarily permit guests to stay there in exchange for offering to work for a few hours each day to help pay their rent.
