Just like every other Indian parent, we had wished for a grand wedding for our daughter. While we knew that something was brewing between her long-time friend and now start-up cofounder, we weren’t sure when things would go to the next level. But we were disappointed when they told us that they wanted to have a simple marriage without any fanfare.
That got us and the groom’s family thinking. Besides our blessings, we wanted to give the young couple something that would help them in their everyday life. Since their start-up operated from the other end of the city, we thought it would be wise to gift them a Renault Kwid to ease their commute!
I have known Rajeev for many years now. Infact he is the son of one of my closest friends! Since school, Surabhi, my daughter and Rajeev have been inseparable. They went to the same school, the same college and even did their post-graduation from the same institute!
On the wedding day, we all went to the marriage registrar’s office to solemnise the wedding. We intended to give the Renault Kwid surprise to the young couple just after they moved out of the office.
We knew the commute to their office from their place was a good 20 km, one way. While Rajeev loved to drive down on his bike, the daily commute on Bangalore’s busy roads wasn’t easy.
Hence, we were looking for an automatic car which would make their commute convenient. And Renault Kwid seemed the right choice for the couple given their aspirational outlook.
Rajeev’s father and I consulted their friends first on the various options available which would suit the younger generation of today. They said that knowing their liking towards functionality and dislike towards anything gaudy or beyond their means, Renault Kwid AMT would be a perfect choice as a gift.
So, we decided to test drive Renault Kwid ourselves first. When we reached the Renault showroom, we were impressed to see the new dual-tone Renault Kwid in metal mustard with a black roof. With an SUV-like stance, the exteriors looked very attractive and we could make out that Renault Kwid had a solid build quality. But what really impressed us were the interiors.
Renault Kwid was spacious and ergonomic on the inside. Infact, it had some of the features of a premium car like the 20.32 cm touchscreen, digital LED instrument cluster, reverse parking camera with guidelines, floor console mounted AMT dial, dual-tone interiors with day/night adjustable IRVM and 279L of boot space. The car was high on safety too with dual airbags and ABS+EBD which would make sure that the car and its passengers stayed safe.
But the real surprise came when we asked for its price. Renault Kwid started at just Rs. 4.49 lakh* (Ex. Showroom Delhi) which we felt was much lower for the value it offered.
Anyways, when the couple finally stepped out of the registrar’s office, we gave them a small box that had the key to their new Renault Kwid. They couldn’t believe what they saw and we felt that we were bang on target with the choice of our gift.
That evening, our families went for dinner where Rajeev and Surabhi thanked us for being so understanding and for the amazing gift. Today, just after three months, the young start-up has received substantial external funding. But more than this funding, they still believe that Renault Kwid AMT was the best thing that could have happened to their start-up!
