Cats love to curl up in the sunshine and nap, and sleep, and nap some more. Cats naturally sleep a lot, especially older cats, but there comes a point where your feline companion may be sleeping too much.
Also known as lethargy, wanting to sleep all the time may be a sign that something may be wrong with your cat. Granted, it can be hard to know when a kitty is getting too many “zzzz,” however, lethargy tends to show up in other ways. Your cat’s overall energy and strength levels will reflect a certain degree of lethargy, so there are telling signs you can watch for to determine if Fluffy is sleeping too much.
Here are a few to watch for:
- Looks sleepy most of the time
- Has a dull coat or is losing hair
- The decline in activity level
- Excess thirst
- Loss of interest in surroundings
- Unresponsive
- Increase in urination
If your cat exhibits one or more of the above symptoms, it’s best to take her to the vet for a checkup. Please don’t hesitate to call us, your veterinary clinic Carolina Forest, SC if you have any questions.
