With time construction industry has witnessed exceptional growth. Due to more urbanization, construction of smart cities, changing lifestyle due to emerging middle class are a few factors that have given a push to new building technologies and materials. uPVC (unplasticised polyvinyl chloride) is one of such building material that has gained attention, as replacement to other traditional materials.

But why uPVC has gained so popularity? Why to choose uPVC material for windows and doors?

They have become very popular and are being used widely in homes because:

• Most durable of the materials available. It is strong, tough and resilient. It is highly unlikely UPVC will need to be changed.

• Never rots, flakes, rusts, fades, pits, peels or corrodes. It needs only a light soapy wash and a check of the seals for maintenance. It requires virtually no maintenance making it very convenient and time-saving.

• It is pollution resistant, sea water resistant and chemical proof. Wood can swell and rot and aluminium and steel can corrode and have galvanic reaction to the fasteners.

• Fire tests have shown that UPVC materials, being naturally flame retardant throughout their product life, will not cause, support or enhance the development of accidental fire and are in fact self-extinguishing.

• They are good insulating materials due to which, it keeps home warmer in winter and cooler houses in summer. It prevents thermal bridging so prevents condensation unlike aluminium.

• When it comes to cost, UPVC doors are much cheaper than aluminium and timber doors.

• uPVC window systems allow for opening in two directions to enhance the ability of taking advantage of natural cross ventilation.

• Double glazed uPVC windows and doors are able to cut down noise by as much as 70%.

• uPVC windows incorporate multi-locking systems providing a high level of security for homes or businesses. Most uPVC window locking systems lock at multiple points all around the sash and frame.

• uPVC can be recycled as often as 10 times.

With so many benefits it is expected that the market would grow at a CAGR of 7 percent in future. With metro and big cities becoming noisy and polluted, uPVC windows and doors are expected to become a priority for people thinking about constructing new homes or renovating their existing ones.
