Mental toughness is a skill set that can be learned and developed over time. It can seem that some athletes have these inbuilt because they can start developing at a young age. This just means that the athlete was exposed to this skill set at a young age, and was surrounded by people who helped them learn it. Every player has a different point and from there learning how to prepare, toughness and how to effectively react to misfortune can all be taught. Resilience can only be learned if there is adversity. The first time something goes wrong on the field, an athlete won’t perform well but they learn many things from it and will gain more experience.
