-Know your neighbors. Many burglaries are crimes of opportunity, meaning that the criminals are only in your home because they saw an easy way to get inside. -Ensure that all doors and windows have deadbolts with at least a one-inch throw into the frame when locked. Ensure you replace any broken locks on exterior doors, as this is a sign that the home isn’t secure. -Install window locks on all ground-floor windows. A quick Google search will give you step-by-step instructions for installing these types of locks.
-Get an alarm system if you don’t already have one. It is the most effective way to protect yourself against burglars, but it can be pricey at $50-$100 per month. -Install motion-activated floodlights outside of your home. These lights will turn on when someone walks in front of them, making it more difficult for criminals to surprise you or sneak into your backyard undetected after dark. -Keep all valuables out of sight from ground-level windows and doors by storing them away in cupboards, closets, drawers with locks, etc.

-If you have a safe in the home, then make sure it’s bolted to the floor or wall so that burglars can’t carry it away with all of your valuables inside! If there are any other expensive items in your home (e.g., flat-screen TVs), I would strongly recommend storing them in this safe when they aren’t being used. -Last but not least, keep receipts/serial numbers for every electronic device and document stored within your house because these could be helpful if one ever gets stolen by police who recover the item during an arrest involving illegal activity elsewhere across town.
