Being a working parent is like working two full-time jobs. Therefore at times, it can be really difficult to take the time to manage to do all your daily chores. But most Australians are ambitious and want to keep their homes in top condition and still have time for themselves. So here is a home maintenance checklist that will make your life a bit easier.

Follow a Schedule

Knowing where to start cleaning is probably one of the most overwhelming things. Another thing that is frustrating is not being able to remember when is the last time that you cleaned something and if it needs to be cleaned again. That is where a schedule comes in handy and makes your problems go away. Keep in mind that things don’t and can’t be perfect all the time, they just need to be maintained. Make a list in which you will write down when you need to clean certain things. Once a week you will want to clean your refrigerator and other appliances, but once a month you’ll want to deep clean them. For things like cleaning the dishes, you can make an everyday chart in which you will split the chores between all the family members. By creating a schedule for everything that needs to be cleaned in the house, you will make all the maintenance in your household quite a bit less stressful.

Do Preventative Maintenance

Creating a schedule shouldn’t only be for daily chores it needs to be also for preventative maintenance. By doing so you will not only make it easier to keep track of it but it can save you money in the long run. Things like checking out your filters, replacing the batteries on the smoke detectors, having professionals such as Canberra plumbers come and inspect your plumbing. That way you will prevent things from becoming major issues. It is much easier to invest some time and money into maintenance than having things break on you every year.

Inspect and Change Out Your HVAC Filters Regularly

Experts say that your filters should be changed on a monthly basis but that isn’t possible or necessary for some families. If you are a smaller family that doesn’t have any pets or someone who struggles with allergies, changing filters every 2 to 3 months is okay. But you will want to inspect them every month to see if they are dirty and change them when needed.

Always Put Things Away After You Used Them

Although this sounds pretty obvious, many people don’t do it and that is when the messes happen. Sometimes it is okay not to put away things as you use them but if you keep doing it with everything you will create chaos. The easiest way to do this is to make sure that both your partner and kids put away their things when they finish using them. There is no “I’ll put it away later” because the less things you need to do at once will help you not be as overwhelmed by your responsibilities.

Test Smoke and Carbon Dioxide Detectors

Making sure that both your smoke and carbon dioxide detectors work is especially important when you have children at home. Testing them is a simple job that should be done every month. If your alarm turns on when you push the test button you are good to go, but if it doesn’t you will want to put new batteries in and test it again. If that doesn’t work you will need to purchase a new detector.

With so many things on your shoulders, you don’t want any extra problems to deal with. Therefore, keeping up with simple maintenance tasks is the best way to ensure that there won’t be any big mishaps going on.
