Lilly was delighted to attend the Dine Safe Ottawa Charter Banquet on Monday evening during National Food Safety Education Week, organized by Canada Health Premiers and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The theme of this year’s event was “Staying clean, Stay safe”.

Dine Safe Ottawa is a committee of public health, government, the food industry, and other responsible organizations in Ottawa. Their purpose is to provide safe food to our communities through education and certification. Certification helps us know that the people who handle our food are trained and held accountable for their actions in keeping food products free of harmful bacteria.

Lilly was invited to attend this event by Councillor George Arouse, whose ward includes Lilly’s pub Smith Brothers Pub & Grub on McMaster Street near Westgate Shopping Centre. This year marks Canada’s 150th anniversary since Confederation, and it seems only appropriate that we should celebrate National Food Safety Education Week during this important milestone year.

I and my family thank Dine Safe Ottawa for this special invitation, as it is an honour to be here tonight. I would also like to congratulate and recognize the chefs at each table for cooking clean safe food samples that we can all enjoy.
