Education is a basic human right. Basic education, regardless of the stream or specialization, hones not just our intellect but, more importantly, our civic, social and behavioral sense to better understand societal norms and code of conduct. We imbibe values and morals in children right from their birth, and the process continues throughout their schooling and tutelage through holistic education and guidance to shape them into responsible citizens.
Maa Foundation, an NGO operated by the Bilakhia Group, functions on the principle of making basic education accessible to the backward sections of society. The NGO strives to offer early education in the rural and economically disadvantaged areas.
Impactful reforms
Education is an evolving sector, constantly in need of reforms, developments, and innovations in the curriculum and learning process. Facing stiff competition from globalized and technologically advanced economies, literacy and development in India require an innovative approach to balance the scales and achieve economic development in its truest sense.
The Government of India has initiated numerous impactful reforms to transform the educational landscape in rural India. Among these reforms are multiple charitable projects undertaken to address issues at different levels in the education and employment of rural youth. Listed below are a few of the projects that are transforming illiterate rural children into educated, financially independent youth.
SWAYAM: Abbreviating to Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds, SWAYAM is undertaken to enable access and quality education to backward and disadvantaged groups. The initiative offers guidance through video lectures, reading material, etc., on a wide array of courses and subjects relevant to schooling, graduation, and professional courses.
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA): The project aims at integrating higher educational institutions with rural areas to understand developmental issues and formulate strategies to bring forth sustainable development and self-reliance.
Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme: With financial aid from World Bank, this project aims at enhancing technical education, especially in the rural, backward, and tribal areas.
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan: Deals with the construction of schools and providing the necessary infrastructure to enhance literacy and enable development.
Such projects and NGOs, along with the help of the Government, are trying their best to ensure children from all backgrounds and sectors of India get access to education.
