To lose weight without dieting, you need to activate your fat metabolism. Yes, but how does that work?
In principle it is very simple:
• Avoid carbohydrates!
• Move!
• Train your muscles!
Die Discussion whether carbohydrates are now necessary or not busy many a forum. The argument is also in full swing among endurance athletes.
From a scientific point of view, it is a fact that carbohydrates have only played a role in human development for around 10,000 years. So in only about 3% of the entire human evolution, carbohydrates were available for nutrition.
The genetic nutrition program that is stored in our genes has its problems with carbohydrates.
So modern man is doing something wrong.
Because approx. 65% of the population in the western industrialized nations are overweight, the genetically stored-program must either have a malfunction or the diet with predominantly carbohydrates is not suitable for us.
Chemically, carbohydrates are sugars:
The monosaccharides ( simple sugars eg. As glucose-fructose), disaccharides ( double sugars for. Example, granulated sugar lactose, maltose ), and oligosaccharides ( complex sugars such. As raffinose ) are water-soluble, have a sweet taste, and are narrower in Senses referred to as sugar.
The polysaccharides ( multiple sugars e.g. starch cellulose chitin), on the other hand, are often poorly or not at all soluble in water and have a neutral taste.
What do carbohydrates do in our bodies soon as we ingest carbohydrates, the organism reacts to them by releasing insulin to lower the blood sugar level again.
In the presence of insulin, fat burning is largely stopped and this is where the crux of the matter lies.
If there is constant sugar in the blood, the body cannot burn fat. But on the contrary.
Insulin is also a storage hormone that creates excess sugar in the fat deposits.
Now the DGE (German Society for Nutrition) has been preaching to us for 40 years that carbohydrates should be the main component of food, which is also shown in the nutrition pyramid drawn up by DEG. So, given these facts, it is time to rethink.
Now I’m an unbeliever by nature. I only believe what can be proven. And how can you give the best evidence? By trying it out for yourself.
So I almost completely avoided carbohydrates for 1 year.
The result was that my body fat percentage decreased from 20% to 4%. My weight fell from 82 kilograms to 68 kilograms without even remotely starving.
On the contrary, I ate more than before.
The main components of my diet were now meat, fish, seafood, cheese, lean sausage, eggs, vegetables, fruit (especially berries), nuts, seeds (sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, pine nuts, etc.), tofu, dairy products without sugar, that is all with almost no carbohydrates.
How did this diet affect exercise?
Well, I have to admit, the first few weeks were hell. I had no strength in training, was quickly tired, and then very exhausted.
It went so far that I was tempted to break off the attempt after two weeks. Then something strange happened.
The tiredness disappeared, my training performance got better day by day, my migraines subsided, I got out of bed better in the morning. In short, there were many effects that I would not have expected.
After four weeks I was fit like never before. I was now able to survive long training units of 3-5 hours without any gel or sugary drink.
Now I love bread! It was very difficult for me to do without bread because you first have to cope with your cheese, sausage, etc. without eating bread.
A few months ago I came across a new type of bread, which also suggests a rethinking among the population. This type of bread is typically called ” protein bread “.
One slice of this bread has only 4 grams of carbohydrates. So it is allowed to eat a few slices a day.
As soon as this bread was on the market it was torn up by the so-called nutrition experts.
Too fast, no taste, no need, etc. Yes, what can I say? Then we stay overweight, have diabetes, heart attacks, cardiovascular diseases, etc.
When a nutrition expert on TV swears by carbohydrates and the good whole grains ( more on whole grains here ) but has an unmistakable 30 kilos too much on his ribs, then I fall apart.
Just a day in the outdoor pool makes it clear that this problem has also reached our children.
It seems to me as if only fat children are walking around. Is of course a bit exaggerated but the fat children are growing, in the truest sense of the word. Form your own opinion.
Conclusion:
I am not ascetic here and now I eat one or two pretzels again, drink a beer or enjoy a cake. I make sure to keep carbohydrates to a minimum.
Well worth a try. I can only report positive things, even if it does not correspond to our eating habits and you have to put up with some spots. The result proves me right!
