Ancient India
With time, higher education sites such as Nalanda and Takshila under the patronage of multiple rulers were created. These institutes were the foundation on which conventional elements such as Indian religions, Indian mathematics, or Indian logic could be taught. Eminent academics like Aryabhatta, Bhaskara I, Kautilya, and Brahmagupta are credited with this method of education.
Education was the only way in the eyes of Aryans to achieve prosperity. It was a method for demonstrating novel ways and know-how. It opens secret features and makes people achieve liberation. According to the Upanishads, knowledge gained from earthly wisdom alone is falsehood, true realization and learning come from education. The goal was to achieve redemption by understanding the reality in this time of education.
Under the guidance of the Guru, in a secluded area, known as Gurukul, it offered the Vedic education system to the pupil. The education system is also responsible for splitting the population into Varnas (Caste) Hence, Gurukul has been available only to the Upper Castes of Indian society. The second was Buddhist School. The aim of Buddhist teaching is to seek wisdom. The Buddhist wisdom was named Anuttara-Samyak-Sambhodi in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India, the perfect supreme wisdom. The Buddha taught us that this supreme understanding is the primary purpose of our activity or cultivation.
Whatever caste or nation the Buddhism flung open its colleges to everyone. India’s higher education has increased its international status by allowing students from remote countries such as Korea, China, Tibet, and Java to be drawn.
Medieval India
Islamic instruction strongly influenced the conventional methods of education during the occupation of the Indian Subcontinent by Muslims in the Late Medieval and the Early Modern periods. Islamic education plays an important role in helping every individual to attain the very goal of human development. Islam gives insight and education the same value. The first word of its first verse was “Iqra,” that is, reading, as the Qur’an started to be revealed. Training is also the point of departure for all human behavior. The hadith grants a scholar (alim) immense respect. The Islamic Hub for Grammar, Philosophy, Mathematics, and Law was traditional Madrassa and Kuttab, inspired by Greek practices inherited from Persia and the Middle East.
Modern India
Pre-Independence
The creation of the education system in British times relied on the interests of the colonial powers. While missionaries and religious organizations had not been official in the Indian masses before 1813, the Charter Act of 1813 formally introduced a state education system in Indian history.
In comparison, the use of the English language increased after the British Raj and the colonial structure became apparent. The language was used everywhere now to read, to teach, and even to communicate every day. It would be no exaggeration to suggest that the whole environment of the education system in India changed during this period. The cornerstone for the 20th century was this era of higher education.
Post-Independence
After freedom, the government set up a variety of educational institutions to ensure that students do not go abroad for higher education. We have set many leading institutions up to ensure students get an education from state schools to IITs and IIMs. Indeed, several universities around the world have been noted for their outstanding schooling.
