what is sinusitis?

The sinus is a small size cavity present in our body. It is found between the eyes, forehead, cheeks, and nose. Sinus is found in our body as following- 

  • The ethmoid sinus is the sinus between the eyes.
  • The sphenoid sinus is in the back of the brain. It is in the middle of the brain and is adjacent to both sides.
  • The maxillary sinus is present in the facial bone.
  • Frontal sinus in the forehead.

When there is a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection in the sinus, then there is inflammation, it is called sinusitis. There are many problems such as headache, forehead pain, facial pain, runny nose, nasal congestion when sinusitis occurs. What the pain will be like and where it will depend on the type of sinusitis. Many times it takes huge form, then there is a need to get treatment from a doctor immediately.

Symptoms of sinusitis

The following symptoms are seen in sinus infection-

  • The nose becomes blocked. Many times the mucus slips from the nose to the throat. Through a sore throat, we remove the mucus present in the throat. It is also called postnasal drip.
  • The nose is closed, this affects the breathing process. During this time we are forced to breathe through the mouth.
  • Smelling ability is reduced. Taste is also not known.
  • Eye and neck pain. There may be swelling in the cheeks, eyes, and forehead. It feels so heavy in the head.
  • Hunger seems low or does not feel like eating. 

Some types of diseases like flu, phlegm, infection, and bone pain are so common in the winter season. People who are suffering from chronic or severe disease get usually infected by cold in winter. This is because due to seasonal changes, there is an increase in those elements in the atmosphere, which increases the diseases of the respiratory system. Winters bring the same problem to the people who are suffering from sinusitis.  These elements also increase asthma attacks and sinus discomfort. Cold air in winter usually makes the condition worse in sinusitis. Cranial cavities of your skull get affected by cold air that creates sinus problems and swelling in nasal bones. Yoga Asanas for Sinusitis

1.Janu Sirsasana (From head to knee)

As we know that yoga provides balance to our body in many ways. You can also practice Janu Sirsana in conditions like sinusitis problem. The practice of Janu Sirsasana helps your shoulders to stretch properly and makes your mind calm. More importantly, this head-down posture will help you to flush out the trapped fluid in the nose, thereby clearing the air ways for breathing. Headache,  anxiety, and fatigue can make your sinusitis condition worse, this asana helps you to cure such conditions along with insomnia and high blood pressure. This asana is the most effective cure for sinusitis problems. To do this:

– Come to the sitting position.

– Try to touch from head to knee.

-Make sure that you do this pose for at least 30 to 60 seconds on each leg.

 

2. Salamb Sarvangasana (All Limbs pose )

Salamb Sarvangasana or All Limbs pose is one such posture, which is considered the queen of all poses. Try to do it on an empty stomach so you get the benefits. As it helps to make calm your mind, then this can be also effective to cure your sinusitis.  This helps your organs to get the filter or clean in the right manner.  Besides these benefits, it also helps you get stress free and minimize your mood swings. – Lie on the yoga mat.

-Keep a pillow near the head.

-Now lift up the body.

-Keep doing this posture for about 30 to 60 seconds.

 

3. Adhomukh Shavasana (Downward-Facing Dog)

The downward-facing Shavasana or downward-facing dog is a posture in which you have to tilt your head down and remain bent. By following this asana on a regular basis you can cure the trouble of your sinus. Also, this asana boosts the circulation of blood in your body and gives relief from heart and lungs related problem. It also strengthens your spine and neck bone.
