If you don’t want to wake up at the crack of dawn or deal with the hassle of school interactions gone awry, consider early learning at home. Here is a list of a few early learning ideologies you can choose from for your children.
Play-Based
Children learn by play. Playing on purpose seeks to emphasise a child’s intellectual, social, emotional and physical development. Guided play can be a significant part of an early learning ideology. Play can help children learn processes, think critically and make decisions. Through their efforts in play, they can learn about how the world and society works. They are taught to think creatively through play. Some things used during playtime for this purpose include art materials, music activities, books, blocks and puppets. Other items such as computers, writing tools, rich print and language mediums, outdoor play, sand, water, and manipulative toys on a table can also be part of play-based learning.
Cognitive-Based
In a cognitive-based philosophy, children learn to converse, socialise, work and negotiate via curiosity and exploration. The environment sought for the activities of the children is rich in all kinds of materials like books, sand, paper, writing tools and all sorts of toys. Problem-solving is encouraged. The atmosphere is warm, with due respect given to each child and the teacher. Here, the students can collaborate and interact and learn from one another in the subjects of math, science, social studies, art, language and music. The students are taught to develop a positive self-concept where all part of themselves—intellectual, social, emotional, physical and creative—are given room to grow. Positives interactions are favoured, while cognitive developments and creative thinking are emphasised.
Shichida
Shichida is considered revolutionary by many because it helps children develop mental methods which aid them to reach their full potential. It has a unique and harmonious approach where both brain hemispheres work in tandem, and the right hemisphere–which develops first, and where the genius level is supposed to be—is accessed thoroughly. This results in higher performance for children ages 0-6. Shichida instructors go through a tough and complete training process to be qualified to teach. There are many hoops to go through to be accredited. Parents are required to participate in class as well, and the children are never publicly criticised. Thus, they develop an innate belief in themselves.
HighScope
In HighScope, students are encouraged to use a method which is called active participatory learning. Hands-on activities are given to the students to develop skills in problem-solving, conflict-resolution and other skills they can apply in their daily lives. Their surroundings play an important part in this ideology of early learning. Maths, reading and science have an academic approach.
Learning is achieved through consistent procedures every day, the child always starts early learning at home, by observing the environment and parents around him/her. It is significant to have classrooms or study rooms well-structured and highly organised. Children are to be taught how to reach their goals and then analyse them afterwards. This will help them become better human beings and valued members of the community in the coming years.
