For starters, you should know that there has been an increase in road traffic accidents in India. It was in 2020 and 2021 when the number of accidents saw a major dip. But everyone knows the reason behind it.

Apart from that, one of the major reasons that caused road accidents in India is overspeeding. As per the sources, the worst affected age group in road accidents comprises 18-45 years, contributing 67% (approx) of total accidents.

However, car safety in India is significantly becoming a concern in India, especially among the patrons. Unfortunately, many videos of road accidents have surfaced on the web, making some people realise the importance of build quality, as a result, patrons and most carmakers are now making safety their top priority.

Which is the safest car?

So, if you ask about the current safest car in India, well, there is not only one but there are four and all of them are based on the same platform, the MQB-A0-IN, made by the Volkswagen Group. The products based on that include Volkswagen’s Virtus and Taigun and Skoda’s Slavia and Kushaq. All four of them have secured a five-star safety rating in adult- and child-occupancy protection.

But, at the same time, there are more vehicles in the Indian market that are safe and have secured a five-star safety rating in adult occupancy protection. That said, check out the following cars that either boast a four-star rating or a five-star safety rating:

Volkswagen Virtus/Taigun

As mentioned above, the MQB-A0-IN-based vehicle are made for and made in India. Further, they are among the first vehicles in India that boast full stars in adult- and child-occupant protection and that too, when the Global NCAP came up with their latest norms.

The starting ex-showroom price of the Volkswagen Virtus and the Taigun is Rs 11.48 lakh and Rs 11.62 lakh, respectively. Both are in petrol only.

As for safety scores, the Tata Punch has a five-star safety rating in adult occupant protection and a four-star rating in child-occupant protection.

The starting ex-showroom price of the Tata Punch is Rs 6 lakh and it goes up to Rs 9.52 lakh. It is also solely available in petrol but it will most likely receive a CNG as well as an EV version. That said, test mules with these fuel types have been spotted in India several times.
