RUSAL, one of the world’s largest aluminum producers, has successfully supplied slabs with recycled content to a long-term partner. The supply is to meet the growing demand for secondary aluminum products, especially in the food and beverage industry.
For the first time in its 60-year history, the company’s largest aluminum smelter, Krasnoyarsk (KrAZ), recycled a batch of aluminum scrap. The aluminum scrap was mixed with liquid metal produced during the primary aluminum production process and, after the casting process, the slabs were transported to a long-term partner of RUSAL and successfully processed. The recycled material was handled and processed by RUSAL to ensure that the product quality was not affected.
Matthias Ohlmer, Global Product Director at RUSAL, said: “Increasing recycled content in our products is an important part of our product strategy as we strive to meet the evolving needs of our customers. To achieve these strategic goals, RUSAL will allocate significant resources to increasing recycling rates, as well as handling, processing and melting aluminium scrap in various qualities, shapes and alloys.”
This marks an important milestone for RUSAL and is not only in line with the company’s commitment to expand the use of recycled aluminium products, but also an important aspect of the company’s sales development plan and sustainability strategy. Incorporating recycled materials into aluminium production is an effective way to reduce the carbon footprint, which reflects a growing global trend in the aluminium industry.
