Buying a toilet of a model that is functional and convenient is one of the important tasks when choosing plumbing for an apartment being renovated. The problem of choice in this case is quite delicate, and there are plenty of offers, as with other plumbing products on the modern market. Many models have different colors and sizes, tank designs, bowl shapes, drainage systems… We will tell you what you should mainly pay attention to when choosing.

First of all, any model you choose should be suitable in height for those who are supposed to use it. Many people, when equipping a children’s bathroom, forget to take into account the height and size of the toilet. Next, the item should not cause difficulties when cleaning. When studying the model you like, pay attention to the toilet inlet, that is, the direction of the connection with the sewer riser.

The inlet can be oblique, straight and ” to the floor”. In old apartments, in most cases, there is an oblique inlet, in new houses, a straight one is more often equipped. You can install a toilet with an unsuitable inlet by using a flexible corrugated pipe as an adapter. But it is better to choose a model with a suitable inlet, since an extra connection point reduces the overall reliability of the structure and increases the risk of leaks.

The most popular models now are the classic floor or suspended ones. The floor design is good for its solidity, guaranteed stability ( if installed correctly). It can be placed anywhere – in a corner, near a wall or in the center of the room. When replacing an old floor model with a new one, there are no big difficulties with installation. The mounting bolts are almost invisible.

A wall-hung toilet looks more compact, for a small bathroom such a model may be preferable. Do not be afraid of instability and external ” fragility” – good manufacturers have a mounting system for wall-hung models designed for a load of up to 400 kilograms! The design of the tank can be different. In modern models, the tank and flush devices are mounted into the thickness of the wall, on which only the flush button is located.

A similar system is mounted on so-called toilet installations ( the bowl itself is suspended on them). If you want to buy a toilet of this design, immediately decide in which wall the tank will be hidden. The tank can be a separate element of the design, this is more common. Professionals recommend choosing a monoblock – a system in which the tank and the bowl are one whole.

More about the installation – a structure for fastening and connecting to the sewer. Installations can be block or frame, after installation they are masked with a plasterboard wall or in some other way. The frame is a system of metal frames on which pipes are hung. The frame installation is attached to the floor and to the wall, and the main load is given to the floor. The block installation is attached only to the load-bearing wall. The shape of the bowl is more a matter of taste. There are the usual flat ( plate), funnel-shaped, visor. According to the generally accepted opinion, the ” anti-splash” shape is the most comfortable to use.

When trying to buy a toilet, be sure to inquire about the flush system. It determines both the volume of water consumed and the cleanliness of the bowl. With a direct flush, more water is spent, and the comfort of use is less ( splashes are possible). With a reverse flush, the water changes direction in an arc, and is used more economically. It is believed that with a reverse flush, the bowl is washed more evenly and better. Fancy models can have a variety of useful functions and characteristics. For example, a side water supply to the tank, unlike the top, ensures its silent filling.

Models with two flush buttons are obviously more practical, as they save water. The toilet seat and lid can have a slow-down system. Such a toilet will not irritate you with the slamming of the lid. You can buy a premium toilet model – they are equipped with electronics and can do a lot. For example, they heat the seat to the temperature you choose, program the flush modes, turn on antibacterial treatment, etc.
