DAAD WISE Scholarship Program helps students who are pursuing a degree program in the fields of science and engineering. Notably, the German scholarship program is meant for Indian students who wish to do a 2-3 month research internship at a public-funded German institute of higher education. Students who belong to selected Indian universities and are pursuing bachelors, dual or integrated programs are eligible to apply under this scholarship scheme.
Notably, DAAD or Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst scholarships include a lot of popular, innovative and general courses. Also, a recipient of the DAAD WISE scholarship receives €1,075 as health insurance and travel allowance along with an additional amount of €750 monthly against living expenses.
Apart from DAAD WISE scholarships, other grant programs that are funded by DAAD and provided to Indian students include Helmut-Schmidt-Program or Master’s Scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance (PPGG), IIT Master Sandwich Scholarships, Semester Scholarships for Students of Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), University Summer Courses, Study Scholarship for Foreign Graduates in the Field of Performing Arts, PhD Scholarships (Research Grants – Doctoral Programs in Germany) and study visits for groups of foreign students to Germany.

Program Eligibility & Deadlines
For a candidate to be eligible for the DAAD WISE Scholarship Program, he/she is required to belong to one of the selected 80 participating Indian higher education institutions including Indian Institute of Technology – Kharagpur, Indian Institute of Technology – Roorkee, BITS Pilani – Hyderabad, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research – Kolkata, and Indian Institute of Technology – Delhi.
Further, the list of selected and participating institutions is not only limited to but influenced by NAAC accreditation, MHRD evaluation, AICTE approval, the Institute of National Importance status and the availability of 4-year bachelor’s and 5-year master’s degree programs.
Notably, a candidate must not be the former recipient of DAAD WISE Scholarship. Along with that, those who are applying for the scholarship should be either in their 5th/6th academic semester of an 8-semester bachelor’s program or in their 5th/6th/7th/8th academic semester of a five-year dual or integrated bachelor’s-master’s degree program. Additionally, students must be enrolled in a program that can be classified under the fields of mathematics, engineering and natural sciences.
Eligibility Requirements
- A student applying for the scholarship must be a registered student of his/her institution.
- It is necessary for a student to obtain an NOC (no objection certificate) for the entire duration from his/her home institution.
- An applicant must have secured an aggregate of 8.5 CGPA or 85% and above in all the semesters completed during the time of application.
- Applicants need to submit a short research proposal along with their CVs.
- It is not mandatory for students to have German language skills but excellent proficiency in English is expected.
- It is necessary for an applicant to hold proof of accommodation for later visa insurance.
