Embossing is a popular technique in scrapbooking, therefore this post will show you some of our methods and techniques for making your products more eye-catching:)
You’ve probably figured out what embossing is and that there are two kinds of embossing. On the one hand, we have cold embossing, which we achieve with instruments like as the Sizzix Big Shot, and hot embossing with the Silhouette Curio.
However, we know that hot embossing amazes since the end product is beautiful and elegant. As a result, we’d like to devote this piece to it and show you some applications, approaches, and tactics for carrying it out.
Paper embossing
You’ve probably figured out what embossing is and that there are two kinds of embossing. On the one hand, we have cold embossing, which we achieve with instruments like as the Sizzix Big Shot, and hot embossing with the Silhouette Curio.
We won’t go through how to accomplish it step by step in this piece because we’re certain you already know. If you have any doubts, you may refer to the post we previously dedicated to this issue by clicking here. What we’re going to do now is provide you with some approaches or tricks to consider.
Types of embossing powders: transparent, pearly or with glitter
The final appearance might vary greatly depending on the embossing powders used. So, keep in mind that translucent powders will somewhat saturate the ink’s colour, pearly powders will attenuate it, and sparkly powders will enhance it. Furthermore, the first two (transparent and pearly) will be gentle to the touch, whereas glittering powder has a coarser feel.
Embossing heat gun
This particular tool is required for embossing. It is not a good idea to use a hair dryer. Don’t even consider it! The drier circulates air, whereas the embossing heat gun circulates heat, which causes the powders to melt. We won’t be able to emboss our design if we use the dryer, and our scraproom would be covered in powder. Don’t even think about it!
How to emboss according to the different types of stamps
If you need to emboss a very thin stamp, such as a quotation or a watermark, you must carefully regulate the timing of the heat gun since the powder will dissolve fast and all the tiny details would be lost. One strategy is to emboss against the light, which allows us to better regulate the heat that we must apply without destroying the item.
Combine hot embossing with watercolour
Another approach for producing embossing is to combine it with watercolours. We utilise both inks and translucent powders for this. The picture generated in the embossing will be revealed when we apply the watercolours. Once the embossing on our watercolour paper has dried, we may sprinkle some water on it and then, using a brush, paint and uncover the picture so that the colours are combined and we get extremely suggestive colour tonalities.
