You might have figured out the reason behind calling them having the same DNA. The CMF-A+ platform and the same set of engines make these two sub-compact crossover SUVs siblings. Speaking of engines, both vehicles only offer petrol units.
There are other Renault cars which are built on the same CMF-A+ platform.
As far as the price figures go, the Renault Kiger demands a premium, whether it’s a base model or a top model. Further, these cars are more or less the same in terms of features and specifications. But, besides that, if you want an aggressive yet futuristic-looking car, the Renault Kiger is the one. Or if you want a butch front fascia, the Nissan Magnite should be your pick.
Further, Nissan has a reputation for offering reliable vehicles, which is no denying. However, only two Nissan cars are available in the Indian market: the Magnite and the Kicks.
This can, however, be a tough choice, which is why you are here reading this article to clear all your doubts. That said, let’s see how the Nissan Magnite stacks up against the Renault Kiger.
Let’s begin then!
Specifications
As mentioned earlier, both vehicles are powered by the same set of petrol engines. Let’s begin with the Japanese offering, the Nissan Magnite. The 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine produces 71.02 bhp at 6250 rpm and 96 Nm of peak torque at 3500 rpm.
On the other hand, the manual-turbo-petrol version is tuned to churn out 98.63 bhp at 5000 rpm and 160 Nm of peak torque at 3600 rpm, whereas the CVT-turbo-petrol version has a different torque of 152 mm at 4400 rpm, but comes along with the same power, rated at 98.63 bhp.
The manul-turbo-petrol variant will thrill you more than other versions. You can also know the true capability of this version when the autoX team explored Arunachal Pradesh in a Magnite.
The CVT version might not give an adrenaline rush because of the low torque and CVT’s rubber-band effect.
On the flip side, you have the Renault Kiger. The current flagship offering from Renault India also has the same set of engines as the Nissan Magnite, while having a difference in the transmission options. In addition, it is worth noting that the 2023-manufactured units of the Renault Kiger will come with an updated BS6(Ph-2) engine.
Unlike the Magnite, the Renault Kiger’s AMT unit is exclusive to the naturally-aspirated petrol unit, while the CVT gearbox is solely for the turbo variant. If you want an AMT variant, check out the Kiger price and select the AMT variant as per your budget on autoX.
Given these two vehicles’ engine and transmission combinations, the Nissan Magnite’s mileage ranges between 17.7 km/l and 20 km/l. On the other hand, the Renault Kiger’s mileage ranges from 19.03 km/l to 20.5 km/l. All are ARAI-certified mileage figures. But, it is worth mentioning that these mileage figures can vary with local traffic conditions and individuals’ driving styles. However, the Kiger may return slightly better mileage than the Nissan Magnite. If you are a lover of Japanese engineering, and that too with performance, you should check out the Magnite price, especially the manual-turbo-petrol version on the autoX website.
Both the subcompact crossover SUVs have the same fuel tank capacity of 40 litres.
Let’s now jump to their other specifications besides the engine performance. Both the sub-four-metre SUVs may have more or less the same driveability because of their nearly identical suspension setups. Both vehicles stand on the same MacPherson Strut with Lower Transverse Link at the front, while their rear suspensions are slightly different. The Nissan Magnite’s rear suspension incorporates Twin Tube Telescopic Shock Absorber (Double Acting), while the Kiger’s rear will have Twist Beam Suspension with Coil Spring. These locally produced vehicles are designed keeping the conditions of the Indian roads in mind. Both four-wheelers should offer a comfortable drive, especially the Renault Kiger. The Magnite might offer a stiffer ride than the Kiger. And, a stiff suspension offers better stability when cruising at high speed. You can check out the Nissan Magnite price on the autoX website.
But it is recommended to take a test drive, as personal experiences vary from person to person.
As far as the brake setups are concerned, both vehicles get a standard disc-drum setup as standard. Furthermore, their disc-drum brakes can be seen through their 16-inch alloy rims. Both vehicles have the same tyre profile, rated at 195/60 R16. Please note that the size and type of rims may differ with variants. You can, however, check out the full list of specifications of the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger or any other vehicle on the autoX website.
Features
As for the features, both vehicles are more or less the same. The top models of these two vehicles have power windows (front and rear), auto HVAC with rear AC vents, 12V charging outlet, adjustable headrests, rear seat armrest, and cup holders. They also offer smart entry, 60:40 rear split seats, centre console armrest, vanity mirror on sunvisor, one touch window (driver side only), adjustable steering wheel, etc. Speaking of steering wheel, both get a leather-wrapped multifunctional steering unit through which you can control selected features of the infotainment.
There is, however, a difference in the way their infotainment units are placed. Having said that, both get the same eight-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Renault Kiger has a floating screen, while the Nissan Magnite has an integrated unit.
Apart from that, the Renault Kiger boasts exclusive features, such as the wireless phone charger, USB and auxiliary outlets, and ARKAMYS-sourced speakers with tweeters.
In parallel, the Nissan Magnite’s exclusive features comprise 360-degree camera, mobile app connectivity, impact sensing auto door lock, anti-theft device, tyre pressure monitoring system, emergency brake light flashing, and hill start assist indicator, to name a few.
In terms of their exteriors, the Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger both get LED DRLs that look imposing on the road. Moreover, both get an all-LED setup. You will find LED lights at the front (DRLs and main lights), and at the rear. Moreover, both vehicles get rear wipers but the Renault Kiger boasts rear window washer.
So, these are a few features of these two vehicles. However, the top models of these vehicles are well-equipped. A few features here and there are also making your thoughts go here and there. If you are a feature-orinted buyer who is fine with an understated design, and that too with a strict budget, you should pick the Nissan Magnite. If you are a buyer who wants a good looking vehicle with features, and with no strict budget, the Renault Kiger should be your pick. However, you can compare cars on the autoX website.
