Winter weather is on its way. That means rain, snow, wind, and ice. All that extreme weather can really take a toll on your truck. Before things get cold and wet, it’s time to make sure your truck is ready. Here are five things you can add to your truck that will make the winter months easier and more comfortable for you and your truck.
Floor Liners
The carpet on your truck’s floor will not hold up well against wet weather and heavy use. Everything you come in contact with outside – mud, dust, snow, chemicals, and the rest – gets on your shoes and then comes into your truck. Protect your truck with floor liners that fit the contours of your vehicle and have raised edges to protect all the nooks and crannies. Liners lock into place, protect the entire floor, and can be removed easily for cleaning. If you don’t want to spring for full liners that can be pricey, invest in a set of all-weather floor mats.
Weatherproof Storage
You carry a lot of gear in your truck. Protect your gear from inclement damage by storing it in a weather-tight truck toolbox. A stainless steel underbody toolbox will keep everything inside safe and dry and won’t take up an inch of spare bed space. If underbody isn’t the right solution, you can find bed boxes that will protect your tools from the weather while occupying minimal bed space.
Tires
Outfit your truck with a good set of tires designed to travel in the conditions you expect to face. Winter is not the time to drive on worn tread; get fresh tires that will give you solid traction on wet, slippery roads. And check your tire pressure. Cold temperatures can lower your tire pressure, so add more air if needed.
Battery
Cold weather drains your battery. Check the health of your battery before the temperatures drop to ensure you don’t stick out in the cold.
Fluids
Before winter weather sets in, check your fluids, do an oil change, add antifreeze, and ensure your windshield cleaning fluids are topped off and that the reservoirs are filled with non-freezing mixtures so you can have good visibility in any conditions. And swap out your wiper blades; you need fresh blades to clean off all the slush and mess that gets kicked up from the road.
Stay Safe
Stay safe this winter in your truck by being prepared.
