A Printed Circuit Board (PCB) or Printed Wiring Board (PWB) is a laminated sandwich of conductive and insulating layers. The PCB has two complementary functions. The first is to fix the electronic components in the designated position of the outer layer by soldering. The second is to provide reliable electrical connections (and reliable open circuits) between component terminals in a controlled manner commonly referred to as PCB design. Each conductive layer is designed with an artwork pattern of conductors (similar to wires on a flat surface) providing electrical connections on that conductive layer. Another fabrication process adds through holes, plated through holes, that allow interconnection between layers.
Reasons to use printed circuit boards
Printed Circuits LLC was established in 1977 and has since become a pioneering printed circuit board manufacturer. Originally manufacturing all types of PCBs, they drove the specialization of rigid-flex and flexible circuit manufacturing in the mid-1990s. Our broad selection of PCB designs enables us to serve a wide range of industries around the world, including military, medical, aerospace, computer, telecommunications and instrumentation. Since then, printed circuit boards have entered people’s field of vision.
PCBs offer many advantages over traditional wired circuits. Their small and lightweight designs are suitable for many modern devices, while their reliability and ease of maintenance make them suitable for integration into complex systems. Additionally, their low production costs make them an extremely cost-effective option.
A PCB Assembly mechanically supports electronic components using conductive pads shaped to accommodate component terminals, and also electrically connects them using traces, planes, and other features etched from one or more copper sheet layers laminated On and/or between non-metallic sheets – conductive substrates. Components are usually soldered to the PCB for electrical connection and mechanical fixation. Printed circuit boards are used in almost all electronic products and some electrical products such as passive switch boxes.
