It is often said that all good things in life come at a price!
This is exactly what I was worried about when I was recently looking to replace my sedan with another car. I paid a hefty price some 8 years ago when I bought this sedan. Since then, I skip a beat whenever I see an ill-designed speed breaker or a pothole-riddled road. My sedan invariably scraped the bottom whenever I passed over such a stretch.
Hence, this time I was determined to go for a high-ground clearance car. But, having gotten used to all the features of a sedan, I wanted a feature-heavy car too!
That’s when a friend of mine gave me a solution –Renault Kiger. While I knew that Kiger had a high ground clearance of 205 mm and was also feature-heavy, I was worried about Kiger’s price. But after much persuasion, I decided to go for a test drive. I simply visited Renault India’s website and booked myself a test drive.
The vehicle arrived at my place at the designated hour. My wife and I reached our parking lot and saw the test drive Kiger waiting for us there. While I had seen the car zipping past many times on the road, this was the first time I had a chance to observe it up close. I had even visited the social media pages of Renault like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube to gather more information and to know the overall user feedback, but seeing Kiger in person was very different.
We liked the aggressive SUV stance of the Kiger. Especially stunning were the tri-octa pure vision LED headlamps with LED DRLs, the front skid plate and the C-shaped LED tail lamps. But what instantly appealed to both of us was the solid build of the car. We still knew that the Kiger’s price may be beyond our budget, but we decided to explore the car from the inside.
As I got in the driver’s seat, I was happy to see that it was a fully height-adjustable seat and gave me a fabulous view of the outside world. While I liked the 8.9 cm wide LED instrument cluster, my wife loved the 20.32 cm touchscreen infotainment unit at the centre.
Then as we got into the rear seat, we both couldn’t stop admiring the smartly designed and spacious interiors of Kiger. With ample leg room for the rear passengers, the car really had some ergonomically designed seats which would make long-distance journeys easy.
We loved the huge boot space of 405L and were elated to know that it could even be expanded to 869L by folding the rear seats.
I was also impressed with the HR10 turbo petrol engine which returned an average of 20.53 KMPL at a very frugal maintenance cost of just 40 paise per km*.
When we learnt that Kiger was rated at 4-stars in Global NCAP studies, we knew that here was a car which had cleared both my primary requirements with flying colours – high ground clearance and top-class features! But at the back of my mind, I also knew that these two things would make Kiger’s price go out of my budget.
Finally, when I was done with the test drive, I asked the representative about Kiger’s price. Instead of a shocker, I was in for yet another pleasant surprise! Kiger’s price started at just Rs. 5.99 lakh* (Ex-Showroom Delhi) which was well within my budget!
Needless to say, I went ahead with the booking process and today have a Radiant Red Kiger which is not just a pleasure to drive, but also glides smoothly over speed breakers & potholes and is minimal on maintenance.
In a nutshell, I must say that Kiger’s price is as pleasant as the car itself!
You too can book the test drive for Kiger or find a dealer near to you.
