When travelling in Morocco

If you are fortunate enough to be able to take a vacation at an inconvenient time, September is an ideal month to plan your Morocco desert tours. In September, the weather is pleasant and there are fewer tourists in Morocco. The number of tourists visiting Morocco in September is lower than in August. This is always greatly appreciated. Because it is still summer, the beaches and well-known circuits to the desert or imperial cities are crowded, but everything is less stressful. You will observe this, particularly in Tangier, Tetouan, and the remainder of northern Morocco’s Mediterranean coast, because most non-resident Moroccans and resident Moroccans will have already returned from their summer holiday destinations.

September weather in Morocco

Because summer is coming to a close in September, the daytime temperatures are gentler, ranging between 25o to 35oC, while the evenings are cooler. You can also take advantage of the fact that the days are still long. So trips to the desert are more pleasant. Because, although the temperatures can still be very high, they are less so than in July and August.

In September, the temperature in Marrakech is around 4-5 degrees colder than in the south, and it begins to cool down at night. Depending on the temperature, we recommend wearing various layers of clothing. Dresses, shorts, linen or cotton slacks, tank tops, short and long sleeves, and sandals and slippers are all appropriate. A little scarf and sweater will do. The temperature in the Atlas Mountains is still perfect for trips and routes through its interior, as well as bicycle or trekking itineraries. If you pick an Atlas tour, bring extra warm clothing for the cold nights in the highlands.

Morocco’s September holidays and festivals

Hopefully, the Tangier Jazz Festival, Tanjazz, will be held again in September 2022, as it is every year. Due to the pandemic, the next edition of this festival, which has been increasing since 2000, was cancelled in 2020 and 2021. If you happen to be in Tangier during the festival, don’t miss the night sessions of foreign performers, which serve as a reason to visit stunning locations. Concerts take place at the Palace of Italian Institutions, also known as Palais Moulay Hafid, the Mendoubia gardens, or Tangier’s seashore.
