Photography has been around since around 1862, providing us with some fascinating, moving, disturbing, and wonderful memories or events in the form of photographs. There are so many reasons that these play an important part in our lives. From a time where the odd singular photograph was taken on a large and intricate device, to the modern day where we can take exceptional photos on a handheld mobile device, it is safe to say that everyone’s love for photographs will most likely continue to grow.
But why is it that we love photographs and why is photography so important?
In this piece we will take a look!
Capturing Memories
Most of us will not be able to remember every single thing that has happened to us – that is just how the brain works. For some things this is great, and for others, it can be a sadness. This is often why we get our cameras out, to preserve a moment in time that we can cherish after it passes. It is also a brilliant way to pass on these experiences with those who were not there, allowing them to get a better idea of a story or something that is important to you.
Birthday parties, Christmases, weddings – you will find someone snapping away in the corner!
It Can Build Up Confidence
The word selfie is officially in the dictionary, and so it should be. In fact, selfie is just an abbreviation of ‘self-portrait’, a concept which has been around even longer than cameras have – it is just that cameras are much easier to use than trying to paint yourself.
While it is important to learn about lens distortion, which can be a prominent feature when someone complains their selfie from a front facing camera does not look right, selfies taken right can inject a boost of confidence! If you want something a little more high-end, then asking a dedicated friend with a good camera to take some photos while wearing something nice is another good option. You could even go to a professional boudoir photographer, and have your own photoshoot. They will usually do your hair and makeup, and style you on set to create a luxurious experience that is bound to build up your confidence and increase your self-esteem. You can then treasure these photos for when you need another ‘pick me up’.
It Is an Art Form
They say a picture is worth one thousand words, and that is because of the stories they can tell, from even a single glance. Photographs can capture an array of human emotion and many ideas and suggestions in just a single image. The photographer can also manipulate these images while they are taking the photos or after to create a tension or specific energy that they would like to capture. Of course, there is a lot of editing software out there now that can mean you can create all kinds of digital art, but the art also refers to the photo itself. Something that can make you feel or think differently.
