Because of their impressionable ages, trauma can have lingering effects on children, especially from childhood. Often many traumas are left unchecked in children due to the lack of proper awareness, and the neglect of these internal wounds can have many damaging implications. Many children with unstable past experiences can grow up to subconsciously develop post-traumatic disorders in an attempt to cope with their deteriorating mental health.

Unhealthy childhood experiences can hinder the growth of an individual as they enter adulthood. Studies show that many childhood traumas can stay with us for longer periods of time and worsen with age, along with many dire consequences.

Therapy is the most important step toward healing. As millions of people across the world are plagued with depression, anxiety, and mental health problems, it is important to reflect on past traumas and the importance of healing. Unfortunately, many adults suffering from mental health issues have difficulty coping with past traumas or finding the healing their inner child deserves. Our internal wounds can cause us to fall into a pattern of severe depression and the abyss of trauma-induced uncertainty. These repercussions must not be taken lightly. To create healthier and happier adults, we must begin the healing process for people at a young age to eradicate the chances of developing such severe disorders when they grow up.

Children critically need healing more than adults. Due to their fragile minds, they are still in a developmental stage in their lives where they are beginning to summon different thoughts and create a chain of patterns to discover who they truly are. They discover the core of their identity and the purpose of their existence as they open their eyes to the vast world. When their identity is clouded by trauma, children can have a much harder time connecting with themselves and their core values. Self-identity mustn’t be tainted by traumatic experiences we have endured in our pasts, and children must have a chance of finding their higher selves without having the burden of healing from these wounds.

In effect, childhood wounds are stronger, affecting the cognitive functions of children and hindering their mental and physical growth. If left untreated, these wounds can have detrimental effects on children’s psyche and personality development. Child therapy must be normalized throughout the world to heal their minds and improve their cognitive functioning. Childhood trauma can prove to become an unwanted hurdle in the development of an individual, and it must undergo evaluation by a professional to begin the healing process.

Counseling children from a young age will have healthier effects on individuals as they grow up. It is important to set these standards from a young age to teach children the importance of therapy and healing. We are all inflicted with childhood wounds, but what if you had received the healing your inner child truly deserved? Who would you be today? If we do not have trauma to cope with as children, we can find the potential of our highest inner selves without any burden weighing us down.
