Every year, some athletes are sidelined due to sports injuries. While sports injuries are inevitable, there are precautions you may take to decrease the chance of sustaining an injury. Stretching before and after exercise may help relieve tension.

In this article, we will talk about the most common sports injuries:

1. Sciatica

If you’ve ever experienced a shooting pain in your buttocks that radiates down your legs, you may have sciatica.

This arises when the sciatic nerve roots in the lumbosacral spine become inflamed or irritated. There are a lot of different explanations for this, and it is important to know the source of your sciatic nerve pain in order to address it.

Chiropractors address a wide variety of musculoskeletal disorders, including back pain, sciatica, neck pain, and headaches.

2. Shin splints

Shin splints are an inflammation of the lower leg muscles caused by repeated stress and high impact sporting activities such as sprinting and dodging. Shin splints are common in athletes like runners, joggers, soccer players, and basketball players.

The two most effective preventative methods are proper stretching and rest.

3. Plantar fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the tendon in the arch of the foot that causes sharp pain with every step. Plantar fasciitis is caused by excessive foot and leg activity mixed with a lack of support.

4. ACL injuries

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is the most important ligament in stabilising your knee. If you make an abrupt change in movement, such as speeding up or slowing down too rapidly, you may strain the ligament.

Resting and cooling the injured area may help with minor tears. As the tear heals, your stability and strength may increase. Should you sustain an injury, it is important to wait for the tear to heal completely before returning to your sport.
