Malaysia will reopen its border to international travelers starting from 1 April 2022. Prime minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Tuesday, 08 Mar 2022, said

“This move will revive the country’s economy, especially the tourism industry that has been heavily affected by the pandemic”

Visitors as well as Malaysia who are fully vaccinated are not required to undergo quarantine upon arrival. However, RT-PCR test two days before departure and a rapid test (RTK/ART) will be required.

Foreigner will have to fill up a pre-departure form and download MySejahtera app.

Country that has yet to open their borders such as Singapore can still use the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) method to travel between their country and Malaysia.

Additionally, Prime Minister Ismail also said that Malaysia is currently in the midst of implementing VTL lanes with Thailand, Brunei and Indonesia.

Since the spread of Covid, Malaysia had shut its border since March 2020. Currently, nearly 98% of Malaysia’s adult population are fully vaccinated, while more then half of the population have received booster shots.

Additionally, recently infected vaccinated travelers are exempted from Malaysia quarantine.

Malaysia Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin in a statement issued on Wednesday said that travelers would need to present evidence that they had been fully vaccinated as well as evidence they had been infected 11 to 60 days before arriving in Malaysia.

Those that had been hospitalised for Covid-19 would also have to show a “fit to travel” letter from the health facility where they were treated.
