Every married couple has experienced the struggles of disagreements, financial hardships, and parenting questions. But so many people in today’s polished social media world are loathe to admit it.
“Life struggles are not a weakness,” says full-time influencer and content creator Jaclyn Singletary Gibson.
She dares to be different and challenges the glitzy, shiny world of Instagram, showing that social media accounts can still look gorgeous and put-together (and hers absolutely does!) and yet reflect an authenticity often missing in the modern online world.
“My content is based on the sometimes not-so-fun reality and depths of marriage and motherhood,” Jaclyn shares. “This perfect life that people try to portray just does not exist. We’re all struggling. And that’s okay.”
Jaclyn has gained a following of 250k+ on Instagram and 79k+ on TikTok, demonstrating that people gravitate toward her realness, openness, and willingness to be vulnerable about all aspects of her life. “I feel that it’s time for social media to start welcoming real life,” she says.
Sharing Solutions For All Women
Jaclyn began her career as a wedding photographer in San Diego, and that background absolutely explains the strong aesthetic appeal of her Instagram account. There is a striking sense of her artistic eye throughout her posts; the colors coordinate, favoring a trendy neutral palette.
But while the vibe is gorgeous, the posts aren’t unrealistic. “I try to be as open as possible,” she confesses. “I have vlogs on my YouTube channel that cover everything in my life. My TikTok account is like that, too. I just believe in truth.”
The camera loves her. She takes care of herself and she’s a gorgeous human being. But she doesn’t devote her life to looks. “I’ve put my hair through so much,” she admits in a TikTok video. “It’s been white, it’s been grey, it’s been pink, it’s been purple, it’s been blue … it’s been this horrifying Bozo the clown ugly orange …”
And then she shares the hair mask she uses to tame the damage. “It’s about being real,” she says of her content, “but it’s also about sharing solutions for the problems that we all face. Problems that we don’t always want to talk about. Like, not all women want to admit that we’ve damaged our hair, but I genuinely want to help.”
Creating a Social Safe Space
“I always want to be as real and open as possible,” Gibson states. “I want to always remind women that whatever you’re facing, whether it’s body issues, marriage problems, parenting difficulties – you aren’t the only one, and you are not alone.”
She brings up issues that many women struggle with but often aren’t comfortable talking about. “I posted a video where my husband was outside crying. I got so much negativity for that post, but firstly, he was fine with it – and secondly, the point was that we as a society need to allow men to feel their feelings, and that’s something that’s lacking. It was for awareness, and if people don’t like it, maybe they should take a moment to examine their own values.”
Creating a safe space for her beloved husband to open up emotionally is on par for Jaclyn’s mission and personality. Her social media accounts are an echo of that safe space. This is why women and girls are flocking to her social media accounts. She shares everything from celebrity crushes to crazy parenting moments and funny, sweet, touching, and frustrating marriage moments.
Making Success Accessible
Her goal is to continue to reach young women and as her follow count grows, more and more people are being touched by her heartfelt stories. She’s passionate about women being the best versions of themselves for their families, spouses, kids, and themselves. “I want to let women know that they are worth the dream life that they can’t stop picturing,” she says, “whatever that might look like for them. I do want to relate that it takes hard work, sacrifice, and not giving into societal norms.”
“One thing I do,” she says, “that I don’t see enough, is share how I got to where I am. If you follow my content you’ll see that in the past we’ve struggled financially. Like probably everyone has. But I’ve worked hard to move up in life and I want to share my success so other women can do it, too.”
Jaclyn works with different brands to promote products she believes in and reaps the financial rewards to help support her family. “I’m making more content about how to get the attention of brands that you’re interested in,” she says. “I refuse to gatekeep what I do. I want to share my successes with everyone. I want all women to have the freedom to spend more time with their families and achieve the life they dream of.”
Working For Herself
“I always had a dream to work for myself,” Jaclyn says. “Now that I’m at that point, I want to share what I’ve learned with other women who are searching for independence.”
She wants to move forward by continuing to offer warm, funny, genuine content, as well as teach like-minded women how to utilize the vast power of social media to achieve their dreams. “There are so many brands out there looking for influencers to promote their products,” she says. “It definitely took some trial and error while I was learning. I guess that’s what I’m hoping to share: how to get where I am without making rookie mistakes.”
Jaclyn shares that one of her top recommendations is actually really simple: “Be yourself. It sounds cliche, I know, but trust me. There’s so much fake out there. It’s easy to be fake and it’s harder to be real, but it’s worth it. People will always call you out if you aren’t real, so just skip all that and be the amazing person you are inside.”
