The Orange Cap is a coveted award for a batter who is participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL). It is an award that is given to the highest run-scorer in that particular edition of the Indian T20 League.

With 135 runs from their first two matches, Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler and Mumbai Indians’ Ishan Kishan, both openers, are tied at the top of the 2022 IPL’s run-scoring charts. Buttler, who made a 68-ball 100 against Mumbai, is also the first centurion of this season. Kishan made 54 off 43 balls in that game, but Mumbai lost by 23 runs. Kishan also scored an unbeaten 81 off 48 balls in Mumbai’s opening game, but they lost to Delhi Capitals by four wickets. Chennai Super Kings’ Shivam Dube is third on the charts, with 109 runs, followed by Liam Livingstone of Punjab Kings (98), and Andre Russell (95) of Kolkata Knight Riders. Faf du Plessis (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Shikhar Dhawan (Punjab) and Robin Uthappa (CSK) have all scored over 90 runs as well.

The Orange Cap is awarded to the leading run-scorer of the IPL season.

The batsman who holds the Orange Cap during the season is allowed to wear it while in the field during the games, as long as he retains the top-scorer spot in the tournament.

In an event where two or more batsmen are tied on runs, the batsman with a better strike rate is awarded the Orange Cap.In an event where an opposition batsman overtakes the tally of the current holder of the Orange Cap, the previous holder is allowed to wear the Cap until the end of that particular innings in which another batsman overtakes him.
