Only a few days have passed since the new year began. Despite the pandemic and lockdown restrictions, 2022 is already looking like a year of major trends in interior style and design.
Therefore, if you are interested in the latest trends dominating the interior design world, here are the top trends you can achieve on any budget.
A variety of colours
Our homes have been dominated by white for years, but one thing is certain in 2022: colour is in.
In the past few months, I have been discussing colour, texture, and injecting more of a bright feeling with clients, explains interior designer Monica Havela.
Think of strong natural colours with earthy tones. Consider darker palettes with strong sensual hues as well.

It’s not just about paint – wallpaper is also making a comeback. It’s like traveling back to the 70s when the wallpaper was a major feature. It just adds a different element to the room.
Our goal is to create a mix of soft murals, colourful murals, and textured grass cloth patterns – something that adds some character.
Bathrooms tailored to your specifications
The theme of this year’s bathrooms is individuality.

We no longer whitewash bathrooms. Instead, we are incorporating feature walls, big bold tiles, and some interesting mirrors that are more decorative than your typical shaving cabinet.
Arch mirrors, stone and timber benchtops, concrete basins, and brushed brass taps and sinks are a few of the new features that make a statement.
Excellent air quality
We experienced some of the hottest days and nights on record during Australia’s summer this year. Air conditioning is an essential feature for any vehicle.
New homes should be equipped with ducted heating and cooling. It is not necessary to sacrifice style for functionality with homeowners opting for grilles and vents that are stylish or ornate.

Choosing a high-quality brand will also result in quiet, cool evenings. Air conditioning systems mounted on the wall are an ideal solution for apartments.
Fujitsu products are compact, powerful, and energy-efficient. In addition, they have added features such as an energy-saving mode, which eliminates the need to waste energy cooling unoccupied rooms.
Unique kitchen designs
Kitchens continue to be the center of the home. Monica Havela, the Gold Coast interior designer and stylist, believes that this space is shifting away from a cookie-cutter style to reflect the family’s individuality.
Today’s trend is to create a much more comfortable synthesis between the rooms so that they may easily transition from one to another,
More layers are being incorporated like bespoke or vintage lighting, and more art and collectibles are being added. To make room for decorative items, ceramics, and other interesting accouterments, hard-working items such as microwaves and ovens are being moved into the butler’s pantry or concealed behind doors.
The trend for fascinating bench seats and barstools is also on the rise, according to Simone.
Lighting fixtures for statements
The lighting industry has become bolder and larger over the past few years. This is expected to continue in 2022.

I encourage you to consider innovative ways to light stairways and cabinetry, Emma suggests. Additionally, if you wish to have more than one focal point in a larger room, you should consider it.
As far as colour is concerned, we used to finish only in silver or white. However, we are moving away from the fashion style of the past five years and moving towards a more sophisticated aesthetic. Currently, brass is very popular, as well as chrome and black.
Homewares made in Australia
Monica says that sustainability has been a trend for a while now, but she says that individual and ethical articles have now taken centre stage
There is a growing interest in sustainability options, according to her.
It is becoming increasingly popular to refurbish old pieces and repurpose them in new ways. People are opting for environmentally friendly fabrics and materials. They also choose to have some items made locally.
There might be a slight increase in the price, but at least you will not have to wait so long as you would have to import it from overseas. Plus, we can support our local economy.
