THIS POST SHOWS HOW TO COMMUNICATE WELL AND DO OTHER THINGS WELL AS WELL…Basically HOW NOT TO BE A REPETITION PARROT! I TRIED TO ARTICLE THE BACKGROUND OF WHAT HEAPSWHITTY OFFERS; WITH THE JOB; WITH UNFORGETTABLE ADVICE FOR CREATIVE AND PROFESSIONAL FREELANCERS WHO HIRE THEM.

Creative Communication” is a term you don’t often hear in marketing, even though it’s at the heart of all great marketing campaigns. Now, of course, I haven’t tested this theory globally or even nationally, but listen to me because I really believe this with all my heart and soul (I probably have one of these).

WTF IS CREATIVE COMMUNICATION?

It’s anything but a buzzword. I will do my best to articulate what I consider “creative communication” which is the inspiration and driving force behind my business, my writing style, my drawings, my life…

I have been working in online marketing and production for the last 7 years, so I have attended various brainstorming sessions, branding workshops, networking conferences, immersion days, and monthly updates. However, in all my time in these collectives, NOT ONCE was the concept of creatively communicating a message to achieve a goal on the agenda or action list. NO, Once this was considered a viable strategy. This could be because it’s very difficult to get a room full of deadline-driven marketers to think outside the box. Or it could be because forced creativity is just the worst. Ew. Worse.

So in my years as a wicked marketer, crying into my tower of puns and lofty USPs, what I’ve noticed is that there’s a general reluctance to approach a campaign in creative way. And I think that comes from most of those involved in a project not having any faith in that style of thinking. Or in their creative juices… And why would they? Teams are trained to be results-oriented, accountable to the “powers that be” and extremely suspicious of their own creative abilities, having never been trained or assessed in this area before.

This is sad for everyone involved. For a creative thinker it is so, so frustrating, especially when one of the best ways to solve an important problem is through creativity. Just ask Bear Grylls as he chows down on raw salmon before using his carcass to weave a fly that will float you down the river.
