In one way or another, we had shopped at a computer store before; it could be for parts or a new computer. But had you shopped at a computer store with an immersive flight cockpit in store? Probably not. But now you can do it at NXND computers.
NXND Computers, located at Bukit Batok Industrial Estate Park A, is not just your regular computer store. If you enter the store, you will notice a layout unlike any other.
The store feature a distinctive flight themed setup. A banner of a 747 line the back of the store, various aircraft decorations hung along the wall and ceiling. Across the store counter, two flight simulator cockpits immediately stood out from the rest of the store’s setup.
The rustic leather smell of the flight simulators chair lingers in the air. White lights lit up the store from the ceiling. The air smells like a 747 interior. It feels like you are on a flight instead of a computer store.
One flight simulator cockpit stands out, particularly with its three-screen setup. Two 27″ screens gaming monitor flank one 27″ screen in the middle (one left, and one right), giving you a simulated panoramic view of an aircraft windscreen.
Below the middle screen, there is a rack that the 747 flight yoke is mounted. Just directly in front of the flight yoke is the leather racing chair. Seating down on the leather racing chair, you will notice a Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog Joystick mounted on the right – like the setup of the F-16 hornet cockpit. At the left is the Thrustmaster Warthog throttle. A Thrustmaster TPU flight rudder for you to control your “aircraft” flaps at your feet.
Just beside the massive 3-screens flight simulator cockpit is another cockpit. This time this cockpit features a one-screen setup. At first look, this setup seems mundane compared to the massive 3-screens cockpit. But, you cannot be more wrong from a first look.
If you look closely, you will notice that the leather racing chair is mounted on a silver platform. Out of curiosity, I asked a store representative about it. The store representative told me about the silver platform and it blew my mind!
The silver box is a 3-degree motion platform. Meaning the mounted seat will move according to the direction your plane is moving, offering up to 3-degree of freedom. They named this rig the 3-degree immersive motion cockpit.
Gosh!
The store rep also told me that this rig features a motion sensor that tracks your head movement. So when your head move left, your point of view in the flight simulator game will move accordingly. A more immersive flight experience.
The immersive cockpit also features the same controller setup as the massive 3-screen cockpit. But this time, you get to have more immersion with the 3-degree motion platform.
The store rep let me spend some time with both cockpits and I have to say that I am impress by the experience.
Out of the two cockpits. My favourite is the 3D immersive cockpit. It really was a wild flight while I was on it. But it was the most immersive and fun experience too. The massive 3-screen gaming monitor cockpit is also impressive on its own right. It generally come down to my personal preference for more motion immersion.
If you are new to flight simulators, you can ask the store rep to guide you through your playthrough. For me, the store rep walks me through the basic control system of the cockpit. After which, I am placed on my first “flight” experience. Throughout the “flight” experience, the store rep stood beside me and guided me in real-time.
Although there was some nerve-racking moment on the landing side of things, I am pleased to say that I managed to land my jet successfully. All the anxiety and paranoia aside, it was still a proud “piloting” moment for me!
Besides their obvious “flight” speciality. NXND Computers is still a computer store. So if you are experiencing some computing issue and need some repair or fixing, you can still go to them for service.
That aside, they also hold all the kinds of stuff a computer store would hold. For example your favourite ASUS motherboard, gaming monitor, headset, and etc. Yup, they build custom desktop computer too.
