Native Americans brought tobacco to explorers on Christopher Columbus’ expedition in the late 1400s. When they returned to Europe, Spain and Portugal were quick to take notice of their cigar smoking habits. Tobacco was first grown commercially in Europe and North America in the mid-16th century. Soon after, Spain perfected the process of meticulously wrapping tobacco leaves into the iconic cigar we see today. Since then, the cigar has evolved into a vehicle for socialising, a link between milestones, and a pleasant pastime for many people.

Celebratory Cigar smoking evolved as a means for people to socialise and unwind. The cigar was a slow-burning cigar, enabling one to savour and appreciate it while conversing with others. These were the periods when people engaged with one another. The unforgettable cigar experience was quickly associated with anniversaries, recollections, and festivities.

As life and time pass, we get more and more engaged in important events in not just our own lives, but also in the lives of others. These occurrences are associated with a high level of emotion and activity. Graduating from college, getting married, having your first kid, and many more events are connected with these milestones. In these situations, one would want to save and record these experiences. Memories may be readily caught on our phones with today’s technology, but we think that documenting these experiences with an attachment to an item is much more appealing. Memories are composed of the capacity to breathe in and take in the present moment.
