Quirino Province is the youngest Province in Cagayan Valley Region II, created only in 1970. It is composed of six (6) municipalities namely: its capital, Cabarroguis; Diffun; Aglipay; Saguday; Nagtipunan; and Maddela.

This Province is not always in everyone’s travel plans, but that is also exactly why you should start planning your trip to this underrated area of the Philippines.

Who doesn’t want to be immersed in local culture?

As a tourist, it’s always a good idea to visit the local museum of the area you’re visiting. Museums give us a one-stop window to the identity and culture of the local area. What do they consider to be the most important? What is the history of the place? Were there any conflicts that you can learn from? Is the province today still very much like how it was in the early days of its inception?

If these are the questions that interest you, you will want to drop by and check the Quirino Province Museum and Library located in the municipality of Cabarroguis for some good self-education.

Wait, there are indigenous tribes?

Yes! Don’t just visit Quirino Province for the place and tourist spots, but also visit for the people. Indigenous tribes play a huge role in keeping the land and history of a place alive. As the name suggests, indigenous peoples are the ones who have a deep connection to their ancestral land, AKA they have been around before the colonizers took over. It is only right to pay a visit to them  and pay your respects to them.

There are Igorot and Ifugao tribes in Quirino Province, but the original inhabitants were the Ilongots and Dumagats. You may want to get to know them and hear their stories.

Self-confessed member of the water tribe? This place is for you

Channel your inner Katara as you behold the majestic Ganano Falls in Diffun. The 100-foot waterfall is located away from the people, but is still surprisingly accessible once you’ve overcome the rivers you will have to pass to get to your location. Unfortunately, there’s no pool to swim in in Ganano Falls, but fortunately the waterfall has three offsprings: Sabangaran Falls, Sinipit Falls, and Nantugaw Falls.

If you want to go for a swim, you can check out Sinipit Falls and enjoy the pool.

If waterfalls aren’t your thing, you can check out the Quirino Watersports Complex located in Cabarroguis. They have plenty of facilities that you can enjoy such as the Wakeboarding Deck, Infinity Pool, among others.

Key Takeaway

When going on an adventure, it’s always a good idea to get off the beaten path. Quirino Province has much to offer in terms of fun and enjoyment, but also education. Whether you are a Filipino wanting to learn more about your country or a foreigner wanting to understand more about the Philippines, a visit to Quirino Province should be on your travel itinerary.
