Each of us knows that in autumn the days are getting shorter, the sun is no longer shining so brightly, and the temperature outside drops significantly. Not only we notice this, but all living organisms, in which life processes also change for such a period, and our houseplants are no exception. To make their autumn-winter period as comfortable as possible, now is the time to remember what needs to be changed in care during this period. Karachi plants
Bring plants from outside to indoors
Probably the most obvious thing is to remove the plants that you took out for the summer period from the balcony, as soon as the temperature at night drops below +10 degrees. Before placing them indoors, be sure to check for pests that may have settled on plants during the summer. If found, treat with Green Soap, Aktara or Fitoverm.
Transplant plants that have grown strongly
During the summer, plants are actively developing and can outgrow their pots. Check – if you notice that some of them have become difficult to fit, the roots protrude strongly from the top of the pot or pull down from the drainage holes – now is the time to transplant them.
Arrange the plants according to the lighting level
In the fall and winter, not only do the days get shorter, but the activity of sunlight is significantly reduced. Now, in order for the plants to receive the same amount of light as in the summer, they need to be moved closer to the window.
And if in your collection there are plants that need bright light (for example, Banana, Strelitzia, Oliva or Citrus), it is better to use phytolamps in the autumn-winter period so that such plants feel comfortable and develop well.
Water less often
In the autumn-winter period, due to a lack of light, plants develop more slowly, which means they consume less water. Now they need to be watered less often so that moisture does not stagnate in the soil. Remember to check that the topsoil is dry before each watering. If in the summer you irrigated, for example once a week, and in the fall you notice that the soil is still wet at this time, it is too early to water, wait a few more days. You can also reduce the amount of water for irrigation.
Monitor the humidity of the air
With the inclusion of heating, the premises will become warmer, and the air will be noticeably drier than it was in the summer. To avoid harming your plants, try not to place them too close to the batteries, if possible, arrange them in groups of several next to each other and turn on the humidifier. By the way, high humidity will be useful not only for your plants, but also for yourself!
Pause feeding
In the autumn-winter period, the use of fertilizers should be suspended, since the plants will be in a dormant period at this time, and they will not need a large amount of nutrients. It will be possible to resume the use of fertilizers already with the onset of spring.
