Not long back from now a smartphone of Rs.7000 was worth buying. In 2020 also it can be said that Nokia 1.3 is an android phone which is far better than its bargain price.
You can purchase better low priced handsets by spending a little more money, but when it comes to sheer affordability, then it is the best value budget phone available in the market.
For the past couple of years, there were a number of Nokia android feature phones like Nokia 8110 and Nokia 3310. However, this is the first time we are getting a chance to test one of the finest tech giant’s sub-Rs. 7000 smartphones.
It is a smartphone running the latest version of Android Go, which is the light version of Android 10. This phone has a 5.7-inch display screen.
The phone is a Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 processor, having 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. You can extend the storage up to 400GB using a micro SD card. It is a dual sim phone and has a 3000 mAh battery.
Price and competition:-
With an MRP of 7000, this smartphone is amazingly good value for money. You can get it at an even reasonable price now as this handset is currently on sale across all major online retailers like Amazon and Flipkart.
Given this smartphone review, it is important to mention that there are some worthy rivals to this handset that are available in the market. The first one is Vodafone Smart V10, having a 5.9-inch display and 32 GB of storage. The other one is Xiaomi Redmi 7A having an HD display and 16 GB storage. But these phones are not available at such a reasonable price.
Design:-
The design of this Nokia smartphone is quite simple. It has a robust plastic chassis and asymmetrical layout to the back and front. The 5.7 display has slim bezels and rounded corners with a semi-circular drop notch at the top which houses the selfie camera.
The display has no oleophobic coating and no official waterproof rating. This handset has an 8 MP rear camera and LED flash, positioned centrally at the top of the phone. Nokia has done well to make this phone as sturdy as it does since phones with removable back lack Stability.
The model colors cyan and sand are much more preferable to the charcoal one which has been sent for review. When you will remove the back cover, you will get a removable battery and two sim slots.
The sim slot on the upper side can hold both a sim card and a MicroSD at the same time. There is a 3.5mm audio jack on the top edge of this phone. On the right-hand side, there are power buttons and a volume rocker.
Nokia has added a Google Assistant button on the left edge. There is an option to disable this button in the settings.
Display:-
The 5.7-inch display has a resolution of 1520×720 with 295 pixels per inch. The screen is actually good for an ultra-budget smartphone. It covers 80.6% of the sRGB gamut with a gamut volume of 91.1%. It has an average Delta E Score of 3.83. Though the display is not color accurate it is miles better than anything you could expect from a phone with such a low price.
Performance and Battery Life:-
This handset is brilliant in many ways but you can say that its performance is definitely a drawback. It has a 1.3 GHz Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 processor and only 1 GB RAM for which it is very low-powered.
This handset has a single-core speed of 608 and manages a multi-core high of 1520. It is slower than the results recorded by both Smart V10 and Redmi 7A.
Apps take a little more time to open and web pages are slow to load. The slimmed-down Android go versions of some most popular apps of Google help to handle multi-tasking a little better.
This handset has an onscreen frame rate of 5fps and can manage 3 fps in the offscreen segment and for gaming purposes, this phone is not that strong. But it can run popular Android titles like Chess Free, Candy Crush Saga, and Pac-Man.
The 3000 mAh battery can keep it going for 10 hrs 37 mins approximately and you need to charge it once each day to stop it from running out of battery.
About the camera:-
This phone has an 8 MP camera with autofocus and LED flash. There is a 5 MP selfie camera on the front. The cameras can record videos in 720 p at 30 fps. You need to keep your hand steady in panning shots as there is no image stabilization.
The camera software is fairly simplistic. Modes available are Photo, Portrait, Video, and Translate. You can turn high dynamic range for softening highlights and brightening up shadows.
HDR is not on by default and the 8 MP camera struggles with excess light. It is better to avoid shooting with any bright light source unless you want massively overexposed images.
The 5 MP selfie camera will provide you with much better lighting. It has a beautifying face enhancement setting engaged and it produces fine quality self-portraits.
The removable back cover is very helpful for easy battery replacements in the future. Though performance wise it may be lacking, the Android go apps that best caters towards low-end hardware, will make the best of its weak internal specifications.
This handset exceeds all expectations for a phone which is so reasonable. It has a good and neat design, a bright IPS display and a camera which is good as per the price.
This handset is impressively affordable and well known for its value-for-money handsets. This phone is extremely reasonable in price and you can learn android and all standard apps that you are familiar with.
This is an Android one phone, here you will get a clutter-free stock version of android with two years of software updates. This phone will stay updated till 2022.
We can say that this is one of the best phones you can get for such a reasonable price and you can easily rely on HMD Global owned Nokia Brand who always put out a well-built phone. And this handset is no different despite its low price.
The phone has a removable battery and a headphone jack for all current wired headphones. The handset has a 5.71 inch LED screen with a teardrop notch at the top of it.
The improved brightness in its screen will provide you a clear display even outside. It has an IPS Lcd capacitive touchscreen and the dimension of this phone is 147.3×71.2×9.4 mm and it weighs 155 grams.
This phone also includes features like GPS, Radio, Bluetooth, and micro USB. Though the device runs on Android 10, the company is planning to upgrade it to the Android 11 operating system.
Every phone is a balance between price and everything else. Obviously, Samsung galaxy S20 is a much better phone than this handset, but this phone has a certain amount of appeal for those people who want to spend a little amount of money and will not do so many things with their phone.
If you are only sticking to messaging and web browsing then you can get that easily by this phone. This handset is just about as basic and as cheap and you can still have a smartphone.
The smartphone has a single camera on the rear side of 8 MP and a 5 MP camera for shooting selfies. The battery is backed with Li-ion 3000 mAh fuel.
You may not play high-end games but apps such as Spotify and Instagram will run okay. Extra bells and whistles are obviously not available for a phone of this price and there is no wireless charging, fast charging, and waterproofing.
Nokia launched its new model Nokia 1.3 on July 10 2020 in India and it is the best budget-friendly phone you can look for.
Given this smartphone review, we can say that if you keep aside gaming and extensive media watching, then you will not be disappointed with this ultra-budget model of Nokia. You can send messages, take photos, browse the web and run most apps satisfactorily.
It will offer plenty of value for money.
