The company launched very few smartphones in 2018 in comparison to its competitors. A few Lava models were launched throughout the year, unlike some manufacturers who introduced new models every few weeks or months. Z92 is a budget smartphone priced at a budget-friendly Rs. 10,000 mark, which the company hopes to introduce in 2019. With a notched display and powered by MediaTek Helio P22 SoC, the Lava Z92 stays current with current technology.

One of the most appealing smartphones to come from the manufacturer is the Lava Z92. When held in the hand, it is sleek, light, and feels good. With a 6.22-inch display featuring a notch at the top with a tiny earpiece and a front-facing camera, the Z92 has a big screen. Aside from the thin bezels at the top and sides, and the thicker one below the display, this device features thin bezels all around. With its curved sides, the Lava Z92 price is affordable & very comfortable in the hand. Although it is only available in Ocean Blue, this is still a welcome change from the usual gold and black options at this price. Glossy backs make a nice visual impression, but the backs are also fingerprint magnets and easily smudge-prone. A transparent case is included in the box, which helps keep smudges off the LCD screen. A fingerprint sensor is located on the back, along with a single camera and two LEDs. Located in an accessible position, the fingerprint sensor is positioned well. On the right section of the device, you will find the power button as well as the volume controls, while the SIM tray is located on the left. You will find a 3.5mm headphone jack, a Micro-USB port, and the grille for the loudspeakers at the bottom. There is nothing on the top of the phone.

Despite its budget price and modest specs, the Lava Z92 has an impressive camera. MediaTek’s Helio P22 processor is powering this smartphone, which we have seen powering the Xiaomi Redmi 6 (Review). Three gigabytes of RAM and 32 gigabytes of storage are included. You can expand the storage space up to 256GB by using the dedicated microSD card slot. 6.22-inch screen with HD+ (720×1520) resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio, with a small notch at the top. The protection offered by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 is provided by Lava. Aside from 4G, the Lava Z92 also offers both Nano-SIM and VoLTE connectivity options. In addition to Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11n, the device supports GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, as well as Beidou. You get a 10W charger with the Lava Z92 and a 3260mAh battery.

While scrolling through the UI on the Lava Z92, we did not detect any lag. Nevertheless, there were a few applications that launched relatively slowly. When you have a few applications open, you can multitask, but heavier ones will cause the phone to shut down some in the background. As we used this smartphone, we found that the display was easily legible in sunlight. In spite of the slow speed of the fingerprint sensor and the slower speed of face recognition, it worked well.

The Lava Z92 features a single 13-megapixel camera at the back with an aperture of f/2.0 and 1.12-micron pixels. At the front, there is an 8-megapixel camera with an aperture of f/2.0 and pixels measuring 1.12 microns. Although the camera app is very basic, there are a few modes to play with. In addition to Studio, AR Sticker, Super Night, Video Beauty, Time Lapse, Filter, Template, Panorama, Intelligent Selfie, and Microspur, there are several other modes. Microspur mode allows you to click macros and set the focus manually with a slider. For the price of the phone, the photos taken with the Lava Z92 were excellent. In daylight, it provided good details and did a good job of exposing. The details of the images could be seen even when zoomed in. Macro photography required tapping to focus since the phone didn’t focus well automatically. However, the contrast was boosted to the point that colours appeared artificial on the phone.
