Skin is the basis of our beauty. As we treat her, so will she give us back, reminds Master Mirna Matas from Pharmacy in Zagreb’s Jurišićeva 3. In addition, she is a reflection of our health and our good and bad habits. Discover how to find the right balance and measure in everything, that is, how to treat it and what to take into the body to make the skin shine with natural beauty.

How to recognize what skin type you have?

Wash well with clean water and dry your face.

If we have combination skin, the cheeks will start to tighten slightly, and the forehead and the area around the nose and chin will remain shiny.

Oily skin stays glowing.

Dry skin tightens in all areas.

Normal skin does not tighten, but is comfortable even after washing.

In order for the skin to glow, we must nourish it from within. This includes a healthy diet, as well as dietary supplements based on nutrients important to the skin, such as biotin, astaxanthin, zinc or omega fatty acids.

MIXED SKIN

Mixed skin is a combination of two types of skin – dry on the cheeks and oily in the nose and chin, or the so-called T-zone. Precisely this type of skin is the most common in percentage and we could say that it is also the most demanding type. Also learn how does pollution affect the skin.

Cleaning

When cleaning combination skin, care must be taken not to dry out parts that are normal or dry, but to clean the pores well and the greasy parts prone to oiliness at the same time. Today on the market we find a multitude of cleansing products for normal to combination skin that gently degrease the skin and clean pores, without disturbing its natural barrier.

In addition to the cleansing gel, if degreasing the oily parts is not enough, it is advisable to use a tonic that will further soothe the sebaceous glands.

When we have cleaned the skin well, it is ready to apply a light cream or fluid that will not have an over-occlusive effect on oily parts, and will not dry out too dry.

Extra care for combination skin

It is an ideal mask based on green clay that will remove impurities from the pores and which, with the addition of various oils, will not dry out the skin too much.

For combination skin, exfoliation should be done at least once a week, not too aggressive so as not to break the skin barrier.

OILY SKIN

Its sebaceous glands are hypertrophied and strongly activated, resulting in the formation of open and closed comedones. If the inflammation spreads to the dermis, inflammatory papules, pustules and nodules also appear, after which scars and hyperpigmentation often remain.

Why do acne occur and how to treat it?

There are several reasons: polycystic ovaries, hypersensitivity and excess androgens, changes in the composition and excessive secretion of sebum … In most cases, different types of topical therapy for acne are combined and, in the case of more severe forms, the use of oral therapy in the form of isotrethionine is inevitable. or antibiotics.

Therapy for oily skin is generally quite aggressive in order to reduce inflammation and suppress sebum secretion. That is why additional therapy is very important, which is used to recover the epidermal barrier damaged by the therapy.

Cleaning

Oily skin should be degreased with a cleansing gel, which is often based on a combination of herbal ingredients that soothe the skin and salicylic acid, which has a mild keratolytic effect. Be careful – and there must be a measure, because if we degrease such skin too much, it will respond to us with even stronger sebum secretion.

That is why it is important that such gels do not contain too much or do not contain soaps that will disrupt the hydrolipid layer.

After washing the face with oily skin gel, a tonic is applied that will soothe it and pick up the rest of the sebum so that the skin is ready to apply the cream.

If it is a mild form of acne, a cream with anti-comedogenic action that unclogs pores and a mild anti-inflammatory effect that will prevent the formation of more severe forms of acne is used. The same creams with salicylic acid often contain zinc, also essential for their antibacterial action.

Twice a week, oily skin types can use a green clay mask that will absorb excess sebum and clean the pores, and certainly an exfoliation that will help desquamate the cells and also prevent the formation of comedones .

DRY SKIN

It can be caused by the natural aging process, estrogen deficiency, genetic inheritance or climate change such as low temperatures, low humidity, sun or strong winds. All dry skin care is based on its hydration and nourishment, as well as non-aggressive cleansing and minimal use of exfoliation.

Cleaning

Dry skin cleansers are milk, micellar solutions with the addition of moisturizers and gentle gels without soap or foam based on hyaluronic acid.

Dry skin creams are nourishing and rich in biolipids and ceramides that strengthen and restore the skin’s epidermal barrier. In addition to creams, there are also moisturizing serums based on omega fatty acids or Na-hyaluronate.

NORMAL SKIN

When we say normal skin, it means fine pores, good circulation, velvety, soft and smooth texture, fresh, pink color of uniform transparency, without blemishes. This skin is not prone to sensitivity.

The care is simple and does not require any stronger substances, but only maintaining the existing condition with moist and gentle creams, serums to nourish it with vitamins and gentle cleansers that will not excessively remove the healthy hydrolipid layer.

Cleaning

Normal skin has a healthy hydrolipid layer on the surface that protects it from bacteria and makes it resistant to external influences. That is why it is enough to clean 2 times a day – to remove makeup and impurities. Gentle cleansers in the form of soap-free gels, face foam and solid syndet are used, with natural bases without too many surfactants and additives that will not leave it dry after cleaning.

In addition to foams and gels for cleansing the skin, gentle micellar waters with humectants such as glycerol are used to remove stronger impurities such as mascara or blush before the cleansing gel, and to cleanse and moisturize the face.

Creams for normal skin are light in texture, moisturizing, rich in vitamins and minerals, and various plant extracts and plant enzymes. In addition to the cream, on warmer summer days, normal skin will be sufficient for fluid care, which complements it with filagrin components, provides moisture and vitamins and minerals contribute to strengthening its barrier.

Exfoliation needs to be done at intervals of approximately two weeks – the gentle formula will not harm the skin barrier, but only help it remove dead cells. To keep the skin young you should do microneedling with PRP.
