Outdoor blinds come in a variety of styles and colors. You can even decide what kind of material you want on them. PVC if you like them durable or you can go for fabric if you prefer function over form. What most of them have in common is the dawning mechanism. Roller cords of a blind are easy to mess up and can be a pain to fix. We have put together an easy-to-follow guide to help you repair your cord in no time.

So, without further ado, let’s begin!

7 Easy Steps to Fix a Broken Roller Cord:

Before we start, keep in mind that although there is a slight difference in how roller cords for outdoor blinds are designed, the general mechanism is the same. This step-by-step guide can come in handy.

  • Have your flathead screwdriver around. The roller cord has a pin sitting on the opposite end of the cord that goes into the connector (a wheel that winds the coil around itself). Push it in using your screwdriver and stop applying pressure once you encounter resistance. Pushing it at this point can damage the blind.
  • After the blind is released, use a flathead driver again to pop off the clutch (a cap that houses the chain) on the side of the connector.
  • Once the cap is out, the chain should come off easily on its own. However, sometimes you may have to open the connector to let it free.
  • Slide the chain through the left side of the round barrel connector, going all the way around it until it hangs on the other side.
  • You will see little round holes in the connector through which the chain runs. Press the chain into them once aligned and passed around the connector. The chain is made of small round beads that fit into these wells.
  • Rotating the pulley slowly will let the chain sit in its position. Once this is done, you can put the clutch back on and close the casing.
  • Pull the chain out through the right side and adjust the length according to your need.

This was the so-called hard part everyone is worried about. But as you can see, it wasn’t a tough job at all. Once you get a hang of it, you can be a pro in no time! There are a few delicate parts of your blind that may break during the process. Buying outdoor roller blinds from a reputable source like Outdoor Blind Southwest can provide you with high-quality parts that don’t break easily.

A couple of things to look out for during the process are the connector and the clutch. These parts are made of plastic and do not require a lot of pressure to break. Snapping them in two is easy and they can get hard to find. So, always have a gentle hand when repairing the roller cord on your outdoor blinds.
