Compared to the comparably harsh combusted cannabis smoke, many medicinal and recreational cannabis users prefer to inhale a refreshing, instantly rejuvenating, cannabinoid-infused vapor. Marijuana and smoking went hand in hand. Then, just 16 years ago, dabbing and with it, honey oil burst onto the scene.
If you’re unfamiliar with dabbing, it entails vaporizing a marijuana concentrate and inhaling the resulting fumes. While that may not sound all that different from the smoking that came before it, dabbing was a huge step forward in cannabis use. Because of concentrate, dabbing was a revolution in the cannabis world. In this context, it is concentrated in the noun sense – a stronger, more potent variant of the original.
Shatter or wax are often used in dabbing. These new strains of marijuana must come from somewhere. This somewhere is now known as honey oil.
What is Honey Oil?
Honey oil is otherwise known as hash oil and is a marijuana concentrate. The THC content is excellent marijuana that you smoke is usually about 20%. However, if you use the extraction process on the same weed, the resulting honey oil (concentrate) will contain up to 80% THC.
Where is Honey Oil used?
Honey oil is primarily used in the production of wax and shatter. Wax and shatter can be used when dabbing. Consider honey oil to be a bridge between the weed that you smoke and stuff you use when dabbing. Wax and shatter are simply dried and cooled versions of honey oil. The molecules in shatter are piled on each other (like a brick wall).
Shatter is transparent and has peanut brittle-Esque properties due to this molecular structure. Wax is the same marijuana concentrate of jumbled molecules (like a pile). Wax is also transparent and has coconut-oil-like properties due to this molecular arrangement.
How is Honey Oil made?
Solvent extraction is the most common method for producing CO2 honey oil. This simply means that a solvent (such as isopropyl alcohol, chloroform, or carbon dioxide) is pushed into the weed plant matter in order to remove the trichomes and other chemical treasures. The solvent is extracted after the “stripping” phase is over, leaving the CBD, THC, terpenes, CBN, and flavonoids behind.
The extraction method has the advantage of being able to be used on any kind of marijuana plant matter. You can remove honey oil from your trimmings, shakes, and even cast-offs by using an extraction method.
Should I try Honey Oil?
The most important factor to remember is the quality of the product you’re buying, whether it’s honey oil or plant stuff. So look for a credible source and try dabbing. You should still go back to the joint or the bong if you don’t like it.
