Akshaya Tritiya, which is also known as Akha Teej, will fall on 14th May 2021 Friday. It is an important day for both Hindus and Jains to perform all the auspicious tasks on the day. Any significant work started on the day is considered to bring the most fruitful results. Those who do yoga, meditation, or Japa receive double of the benefits on the day.
People also initiate their marriage process; some start a new business and invest in silver and gold. People worship the family deity; they commence special Pujas that bring positive energy to the home. Feeding the poor and serving those in need accumulate good karma and wash off the sins.
The day makes one more spiritually developed; the person makes the right decisions and lives more comfortably in the world.
Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third lunar day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakha month, April to May duration. It is the purest and the most auspicious day on which starting something new doesn’t need a Muhurta; every moment is the right timing.
There are several significances related to this day. Many people celebrate it as the birthday of Parashurama and hence call it Parashurama Jayanti; Parashurama is known to be the sixth incarnation of Vishnu.
Ganga Saptami is also celebrated on the day since the river was descended through Shiva to purify the ancestors of King Bhagirath.
There are several more significances related to the day. Sudama met his childhood companion Krishna on the day in Dwarka. Krishna, in return, fulfilled him with unending wealth, joy, and happiness.
On the day Sun and Moon shine the brightest in the sky. Here the Sun denotes our body, and Moon is the mind. The day provides us a chance to purify both our body and soul so they can run together in harmony and form a blissful state to live in.
Things to Do
• Buy gold: the day is auspicious to buy gold and silver since the precious metals denote prosperity and wealth related to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi. If one invests in these metals, it tends to bring good returns, stabilizing one’s financial state more.
Just like buying gold, making a significant purchase is also considered auspicious. Someone who is going to buy a car or making such a huge purchase should choose Akshaya Tritiya as their day.
• The day is also auspicious for doing to the inauguration or buying a new property. No Muhurta is needed to enter the new home if it is done on Akshay Tritiya. Also, many builders offer huge discounts on the day for real estate.
• People should also serve others or make donations as per their capability. Doing so helps them earn the double good karma that they get blessed with more wealth and prosperity in life.
Things to Avoid
As there are some auspicious activities to do on the day, there are some things you must avoid doing.
• The sacred thread: one should not wear the Hindu sacred thread on this day; it tends to bring bad luck.
• Having a thread ceremony should also be avoided; the day doesn’t bring good results in such a case.
• It is considered bad to break a fast on this day. If you are fasting for some amount of time, don’t break it on Akshay Tritiya.
Reasons to Buy Gold
The majority of the population tends to buy gold on the day or invest in it. There are many reasons behind it. The primary reason is that any such valuable investment made on this day only multiplies in the results.
Here Akshay means “never-ending.” Thus when you make any purchase on the day, it multiplies, and you get blessed by immense wealth.
It is also considered the day on which Kubera got his post of treasurer. Hence buying gold on the day is a way to respect him, which pleases Kubera and provides you his blessings in the form of wealth.
One logical reason is there too. The Shravana month or the period of July to August is considered the most favorable time for marriages. Hindu families hence prefer to buy the ornaments two months before that is in the month of April to May.
This is the same duration on which Akshay Tritiya happens. Hence buying ornaments during the occasion tends to bring more stability and harmony to the marriage.
