There are several NGOs doing great work by helping society and LAKSHYAM is one of those NGOs. Lakshyam was founded in the year 2012 by a group of people who shared a common dream, goal and had come together to contribute towards society & people development with a focus on the area of child education, development, and women empowerment. Inspired by Gandhian ideals of social change, what guides us is the talisman – Be the Change you want to see in the world!
Despite being the capital of India, Delhi has over 4 million people living in makeshift homes in slums that are overcrowded, lack adequate water supply, sanitation, and security. Children of these slum dwellers often do not get access to basic education and instead have to start working to support their families. At such a tender age, they are forced to grow up in a haste and suffer the loss of their childhood and innocence. They are taken advantage of by employers who use them as cheap labor. United Nations recognizes the deprivation of these resources to be a violation of fundamental human rights. It is not just the responsibility of the government to promote and protect the human rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals or groups. It is the duty of us – the citizens – to do our bit in ensuring equal advancement of all sections of society.
The statistics and the problem is same across India when we talk about less privileged one in our country be it rural or urban India.
We at Lakshyam vowed to put an end to this widespread violation of people’s fundamental rights, especially of women and children residing in the slums of metropolitan cities. We aim to empower them through education and employment by implementing models of development that are tailored to the needs of the community. Lakshyam has organized programs such as – Butterfly- Child Welfare and Education (wherein basic education is provided to impoverished children through comprehensive learning methods), Lakshyam Toy Library (wherein the child’s growth is supplemented using educational toys, games, and books in an environment which cultivates and encourages the child’s imagination and creativity), Rooh – Awakening Women’s soul (wherein women are empowered to generate self-employment and a means of income using training of vocational and professional skills.
Our purpose of existence is to enhance the lives of disadvantaged children and women and to offer a positive direction and a healthier approach towards their life. Lakshyam continues to vow a credible, honest, transparent, and accountable organization that devotes itself towards a privileged future for the not-so-privileged ones. Lakshyam helps society through three programs- BUTTERFLY, ROOH, TOY LIBRARY. Lakshyam’s Butterfly Program provides Remedial Education Centers for street children and dropouts, wherein the gap can be filled so that these kids can be enrolled in the formal education system. Lakshyam’s Rooh Program tirelessly strives to educate the women of India and empower them with skill training so that they can lead a life with confidence and at par. Lakshyam Toy Library aims at providing toys & books to each child as we believed every childhood is special and toys and books play a crucial role in the development of the child.
