Pasta is the ultimate go-to lunch or dinner special, all-time favourite food, and comfort food for most people. It is versatile as pasta dish recipes have varying ingredients and flavours. Hence, it is satisfying for anyone. They can eat pasta that suits their taste – opting for a specific sauce, pasta type, as well as other ingredients.

Accordingly, pasta is also convenient. Though the process of making fresh pasta from scratch can be a lot of work, cooking the pasta is easy. It only needs to be placed in boiling water. After which, it can be strained and plated with appropriate sauces.

But even when pasta is versatile and convenient to prepare and serve, it would take time for a person to figure out what types of sauces are more appropriate for each pasta type. Even though there are various pasta recipes printed in books and published online, people would still experiment to try and create a pasta dish of their own.

It is worth noting that certain types of pasta work well when paired with certain sauces or used in particular dishes. For instance, since fettuccine pasta is wide, long, flat, and thick, it can be paired with creamy sauces as it can easily soak the flavour.

Macaroni, a C-shaped pasta tube, is suited for mac ‘n’ cheese dishes, salads, and soups. Moreover, lasagne pasta is used in oven-baked dishes, such as Lasagne al Forno or Lasagna, as the flat pasta holds up well in the oven.

Aside from the lasagne pasta, tagliatelle pasta is another flat pasta type commonly used in the authentic Italian pasta dish – ragu Alla Bologne. To make the dish, a rich ragu, a meat-based sauce made with ground meat, sauteed celery and carrot, tomatoes, stock and milk, and red wine, is mixed with the tagliatelle pasta.

These are only some of the pasta types that can be used in different pasta dish recipes. Read the infographic by Cirelli & Co, an Italian restaurant in Melbourne, to know more about the ten common pasta types and the dishes they can be ideally used for.
