TCM Tuina (TCM Massage)

TCM Tuina (TCM Massage), like acupuncture, is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine  for more than 2000 years. It is based on the theory of qi and its imbalances. Qi corresponds to the body’s energy and TCM Physician believed that blockage of this flow can cause pain and stress.

TCM Tuina (TCM Massage) can be used by TCM Physician to help in correct functional imbalances and restore the flow thus returning the body to a more natural state of well-being. The fact that TCM Tuina (TCM Massage) is still being widely used by Singapore TCM Physician for TCM Pain Management & stress relief purposes today is a testimony to its effectiveness.

For TCM Physician, the goal of TCM tuina (TCM Massage) is to stimulate the flow of qi or energy and promote balance and harmony. TCM Tuina (TCM Massage) involves pushing and grasping of the various pressure points in the body. It aims to correct any abnormality by removing blockages that interfere with the flow of qi. TCM Tuina (TCM Massage) is similar to acupuncture as it targets certain points of the body, but instead of needles, it uses hands and fingers. If you are not comfortable with invasive procedures, you may find that requesting for TCM Tuina (TCM massage) from your TCM Physician is a more comfortable choice of treatment.

TCM Cupping

TCM Cupping is the term applied to a technique performed by TCM Physician and therapists that uses small glass cups or bamboo jars as suction devices that are placed on the ski to disperse and break up stagnation and congestion by drawing congested blood, energy or other humors to the surface.

Once the suction has occurred, the cups can be gently moved across the skin (often referred to as “gliding cupping). Medical Massage oils are sometimes applied to improve movement of the glass cups along the skin. The suction in the cups causes the skin and superficial muscle layer to be lightly drawn into the cup. TCM Cupping is much like the inverse of TCM Tuina (TCM Massage) – rather than applying pressure to muscles, it uses gentle pressure to pull them upward. For most patients, this is a particularly relaxing and relieving sensation. Once suctioned, the cups are generally left in place by the TCM Physician or therapists for about ten minutes while the patient relaxes. This is also similar to TCM Tuina (TCM Massage) technique that targets acupressure points as well as painful body parts, and is well known to provide relief through pressure.

In recent years TCM cupping has been growing in popularity with athletes, such as Olympic swimming gold medalist Micheal Phelps, as TCM Cupping help them to recover faster from their training.
