January has passed and there is some news. Let’s quickly review them. When talking about moves we have to mention Piatek’s move to Milan from Genoa for 35 million. Milan had an awful first half of the season and their biggest issue was scoring goals. They went out and got the best goalscorer in Italy this past half-season. His move already paid off after scoring a brace against Napoli in the Cup. Besides him, Milan also acquired Paqueta from Brazil who is a young upcoming midfielder for the same amount as Piatek which might be a good move but the jury is out on that one until the end of the season.
Besides those splashes that Milan made, there weren’t any particular big moves in Serie A. Juventus sold Benatia after he publicly voiced his frustration about the lack of playing time. He was replaced by Martin Caceres who didn’t see much playing time either this season but he is a familiar face whom manager Max Allegri can trust to fill the rotation when needed. There were rumours about Juventus wanting to get an additional Centre Back because Leonardo Bonucci suffered an injury that is going to keep him off the field for at least a month which means he will miss key games vs Atletico in the Champions League.
Sampdoria went out and bought Manolo Gabbiadini from Southhampton in an effort to bolster their chances to qualify for Europe next season. They played very well at times but their ageing attack needed a boost as Manolo will surely provide one.
In the blue side of Milan, Ivan Perišić handed in a transfer request but he was abruptly shut down by new CEO Giuseppe Marotta. It seems to be that there will be no moves for Inter Milan this winter.
